AMG A45 S vs old AMG A45 review

😕The previous generation sounds way better. Disappointing

That was my initial thought as well.
Other than that, I think it's pretty much flawless. (The price is scary as well)

Can I get a reality check here?

This is a hatchback that’s nearly R900 000. It’s insane.

Pros: I like the looks, a lot. It’s a good looking car.
Cons: Mercedes reliability is shit and this is an expensive car.

I don’t mind expensive cars if you can afford them but do you know how much interest you pay on an expensive car loan? I do.

Take the cost of the car and add roughly 50%.

That’s roughly R1.35 million for the A45 AMG after all is said and done and you are not getting that back.

I’d rather get a Fiesta ST. More fun, less insane and less expensive.

@JollyJamma While I agree the price is a ouch. Let's look at the Merc's closest rival.
The merc comes standard with pretty much every piece of kit imaginable.

2019 Audi RS3 starts at over R900 000 (Before options).
Have you seen Audi's options list? You could easily spend another R200 000 on a RS3.
They charge extra for things like adaptive cruise control (Something that's becoming standard in cars that cost half as much).

Wel ek gee nie om wat dit kos, want sodra die Lotto na my kant toe kom, koop ek n geel heksie en sit n ordentlike 6 spoed handrat in. Gn man ry met n kakomatic nie.

Both the A45 and RS3 are stupid and you could get more car for your money elsewhere.

I’d rather get 2 cars for the price of R900K and one would be as fun as the A45.

An example is an E46 M3 or Z4 or an Alfa 156 JT 3.2 V6, paired with a Toyota.

I also don’t like the generic design principle of Audi. When you can’t tell the difference between an A3 sedan and an A8 sedan without looking closely, I find that dull and pointless.

If I drive an expensive car, I want poor people to know it. The A45 DOES do “get the fuck out of my way, poor person”, so I’ll give it 10/10 for looks.

Yeah, I'm in no way supportive of the mental pricing. I'd say at least the Merc is special.
I was helping one of my clients pic a car for his wife, looking at local pricing...made my eyes bleed.

Mercedes C200 starting at over R600 000...WTF

The basic 318i is R518 000 and I trust BMW waaaay more at the moment than Merc.

The following Mercs have terrible reliability: CLA, GLA, ML, etc.

The ML was especially known for being a dogs hit pile of poo. 10 layers of paint couldn’t hide the fact that it was made with pig iron and stupidity.

The VW Toureg V12 TDi was also a stupidly unreliable car.

Edit:

People may have noticed that I spoke badly about Merc reliability whilst suggesting an Alfa and that sounds like a contradiction, but it’s not.

The Alfa is far more pretty and depreciated like a brick off a cliff so it’s cheap, whilst giving you a V6 that makes your tinkle vibrate.

Yes, you’ll need to fix both, but the money you save on the purchase price of the Alfa is far more than the price of the Merc.

New car prices period are crazy :/

New car prices period are crazy :/

People always say that about car prices and they always will.

Prices will always go up. I will never buy a brand new car, I’ll always buy one second hand and fix it up if needs be.

I’m willing to put the time and money into a car that has depreciated but needs work.

Take the Alfa 156 3.2. Amazing car. Look and sounds fantastic. I wouldn’t trust it to get me to work everyday though so I would have a backup plan.

Some people just want to know that their car is backed by a warranty and service plan. Great. I can just tell you that having a warranty doesn’t mean you won’t have to send the car in for a week to be fixed and you’ll lose 50% of the value of the car after you buy it.

I’ll still lose my car for a week but I’ll pay 50% less for the car and cry less. I would factor the cost of the repair of the parts into the total lifespan cost.

even 2nd hand car prices at the moment are high.. I believe the reason is cause new car prices are so high people either cant afford to upgrade to a new car or otherwise they are asking for the highest price possible to that they can afford the upgrade.

I mean have a look at a E90 3 series BMW 320d, its now 2 generations behind with the F series and G series available, however these E90s prices are still quite high when looking at the year and mileage the cars have

It is indeed expensive,
but it also has the highest output 2.0L in the world (Engineering awesomeness)
and reaches 100 in under 4 seconds.

As with the RS3, they are just awesomely made showcase machines, that are of course going to be incredibly expensive.
You can probably find a cheaper more fun car, for less money, but that isn't the point of these cars.
This is the Germans pushing to have the strongest hatchback, its a competition for number one,
Pretty much the only reason BMW is now releasing a 300kw 140e

Same as how Renault keep updating there latest Megane RS model until they have the FWD record at nurburgring, which they now have again
Also Same as how the 2080ti is stupid expensive and not that much better than a 1080ti :p

Tree hugging hippies are dumb, only reasons electric dumb nonsense cars look good is they're unregulated for now where all their petrol/diesel counterparts have so many regulations holding their performance back FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.... first they said it's the OZONE LAYER then that faded.. then it was GLOBAL WARMING then that faded.... now it's called CLIMATE CHANGE like we have an impact on what a much larger system does when it's had more ice ages then we have on record and once upon a time news flash the earth was extremely hot all by itself and for those losers that say cars cars cars destroying the climate take into account Egypt was once a tropical rain forest and that was before cars existed and became what it is today before cars existed so take your EU regulations and shove them right up there with all your electric car money making nonsense

Heard about it. Does it affect the SA version of the A45s?

I know that Germany actually banned the sale of M-Performance exhausts mid last year but they've still been available in other markets up to now. However, this report about BMW exhausts says the new EU regulations will affect other markets and it does seem likely to happen:
"Wouldn’t it make sense to make the European models quieter and let us enjoy more sound in other parts of the world? Well unfortunately to the individuals in charge of costs, they certainly do not agree."
