For now . AMD will be disabling it when they update the agesa code.

They claim it creates too much confusion.

Btw. Anyone seen any 3800x review? I want to know how it compared to the 3700x.

For now I will likely go with an 8core cpu for my upgrade. Totally undecided on which mobo as yet. Really like the msi ace but trying to justify the cost.
In all honesty I could not care less about pcie 4.0. If only the new bios would come it be great.

You and me both, I slready fully paid for one, got the shop napping. Sunday price R9199.00 now Monday price R9799.00. But my deal is set on the price. I even offered to pay them the additional R600.00 to make sure I get but they said the price is the price so Im set.

*certain* B450 boards can’t handle a 3900X. Models like the B450 Tomahawk can handle it really well.

It’s all about the VRM setup. There are even shit X470 boards so don’t generalize.
I was summarising the video, not generalizing. If you really wanted to pair a 3900X with a B450 board one would hope their knowledge of VRM design would be up to scratch.

Interestingly I have pcie 4.0 on my Asus crosshair vii hero x470 mobo. Yup it is there.

I was quite surprised when I saw this was possible, initially I didn't think it was physically possible without the X570 chipset. Hopefully it works at full spec too.

AMD already going to release a microcode update (ageisa?) To block pcie 4 on x470

Will PCIe 4 make any noticeable difference on SLI or Crossfire...or well anything?

PCI 4.0 might make a difference in NVME transfer speeds... if you bought an M.2 NVME drive that actually saturates PCI 3 bandwidth available.

Think gamersnexus or hadrwareunboxed (or canucks? SOMEONE) tested the GPU/CPU performance on 3 vs 4 and... nada. Maybe 1 or 2FPS more. Mostly nothing. Error margin, in my opinion.

This is my current understanding.

Thanks...Ive never heard of anyone that had PCIe 3 bandwidth as the bottleneck. Or at least they didn't know that was the bottleneck...so hard to know.

Implementing PCIe 4 is good yes but they marketing it as if its making a difference NOW when it will only come into play MUCH later. Unless we both missing some potential thing that is caused by this.

PCIE 4.0 bandwidth is theoretically doubled, however from what I have come across, today's GPUs do not saturate even PCIE 3.0 x16, they are close to x8 saturation point.

Yup same with what I have seen. For now PCIE 4.0 only benefits the NVME drives that support it. Those drives can get close to 5GB/s read & write speeds currently.

Agreed, not much difference to be seen now, unless you want to run a crazy amount of expansion cards that can make use of all the bandwidth available. I'm thinking maybe workstation PC's with expansion cards, or one of those multi slot NVME capable expansion cards for a RAID setup.

Currently only the 2080ti comes close to saturating pcie 3.0 x8, nothing comes close to saturating pcie 3.0 16x.

For now pcie 4.0 is for faster nvme drives.

Your summary was a value comment so that's summarizing in a general sense and non specific, thus, generalizing.

Besides the pimp factor, it seems expensive cooling for your fancy new Ryzen 3000 is a waste of money.

Especially taking into account the rather hopeless and very confusing overclocking results over stock.
They really have neutered Zen 2. PS: Still a great CPU but no fun for the enthusiast it seems

And of course makes these insanely expensive X570 boards rather redundant. Were a waste of money anyway but imagine buying a MSI Godlike board and it offers nothing of any value in the OC department.
I must admit Intel is just far less of a headache . I have one from listening to 36 minutes of Steve. Not his fault :)

You have a point, but the moment you go DICE or LN2 the Godlike (not that I would buy it) will be a blessing. Personally I'll just get the MSI X570 ACE, not much difference, but I believe what I'll get going Dice or LN2 will be the same as what I'll get with my OLD Crosshair VII hero.

I think results are going to be much the same across all the premium boards. Will be hard to top your GERIATRIC Crosshair VII hero ;)

Hi @Perester the new boards should have more to offer, but Ill probably go MSI for another as Asus is tsking their sweet time with bios updates. Then again, I had just about no issue getting the Ryzen 5 3600 to run properly on this board so maybe not all thst bad. Luckily I had advice from Gouhan Gouhan to rather first use this board before investing in another. Cheers to him.

Also hoping the Crosshair VI gets its shit together and works better with the 3900X.

Cant say im that pleased with asus... this board has been finicky from day one and not at all what i expected from a top end board.
