Hi Guys.

I wanna buy my latest build directly from Amazon, and I see they have direct shipping the the whole package for about R300.

Is it worth it to go this route? Or do I play it safe and go though the hassle of Aramex global shopper ect.

I believe you will pay at least 15% (vat) import duties on that, excluding shipping. Might as well grab it from Wootware or Rebeltech.

Where do you see the direct shipping option as individual shipping is ~ R 800?

Also keep an eye out for duties and taxes being included.

On the Shipping and Payment page it states:

"AmazonGlobal and Amazon Global Store makes international shipping easy by calculating import fees at checkout, as well as clearing customs for you. In addition, you have the visibility to track your packages door-to-door. Learn more

It would be great if "calculating import fees at checkout, as well as clearing customs for you." were to work as it should.

However with SARS it's probably a gamble?

I have bought a fair few items from Amazon & their shipping is generally ahead of schedule and updated regularly.

The import & duty taxes cannot be avoided and it best to go with the option that includes it as it will work out cheaper.

AFAIK - the import and duties is accurate, if it is less they pay it back to you or vice versa.

How much is the duties and taxes usualy. lets say on a R1000 item?

Also take into account that international warranties are a real pain... Also make sure the PSU you're getting is capable of 230V, although most should be anyway.

When you put those items in your cart and follow the order process to the very last step where you verify the order you will see the total cost -
Items - R 5705.06
Shipping And Handling - R 368.82

Import Fees Deposit - R 941.36

Order Total - R 7015.24 <this is the total cost shipped to your door inc all VAT - everything

I have shipped many things direct and it's way way easier (and cheaper) than going the Aramex route. They ship fast and it comes to your door via courier not through SA Post Office - don't be afraid, they are awesome.
