Afrihost, Coolideas DDOS again? RSAWeb too? Who hates South African ISP's so much?

Lots of folks jumped ship after the first few rounds, and rightly so. There are plenty of better option out there than Cool Ideas and most have realised that.
Just going on the Mybb thread on CC and the constant issues they have, it's very apparent it's not the same SP it was just last year.

@PaladinLaw Not sure what you mean, they cost the same as other ISPs, and their service has been great. Not sure if I should be pissed at an ISP because someone decides to attack their network (might even be a competitor, maybe the one you pay? Who knows?)

RSAweb has a similar notice up, other ISPs might also be affected.

Clearly outside their control. Just not cool. I want to game, dammit.

It's surprising that after the first few rounds they havent, seemingly, put in better mitigation strategies. Or perhaps they have, I don't really know. Just strange that this is the new norm.

Bro im so over defending cool ideas .... Same issue here, i saw very good reviews and prices from Mind the Speed. so will try them.

Really, again with the DDOS amplification Attacks?

If this is still here by Tuesday when my holiday starts, I will be unhappy,
Best thing I did was to migrate from that shit show

Whilst they can't help for being attacked, surely they should have better mitigation in place? It's not just the ISPs that's targeted, it was our banks as well, think I read it a while back, so I doubt it's a competitor attacking them.

Not out of their control. It's relatively trivial to diverge a ddos.

What really gets to me are these people that defend them. They're a big ass company, they don't need you to defend them.
All I wanted to do this weekend was game and forget about work for a bit but no, that's not happening.

It's a pretty crap situation. CI seem to be doing a their best to mitigate it but it sounds like the attack was north of 120gbps which is barely insignificant.

Not sure if Im with coolideas but my steam/origin wont work. Some websites wont load but netflix is fine :cautious::cautious::cautious:

Ja Afrihost is having massive issues this evening.

Took them forever to put the notice out though.....

So whats the point. Last time it happened to CISP, I cancelled with them a couple of weeks later. Now its happening to seemingly everyone. No point in moving between ISPs if they'll just join the list of attacked -.- fucking assholes

It's definitely not happening to everyone.

Which provider are you with?

Still with CISP till the end of this month, using out my 1 month notice. So need to make a decision on who to take up next. Was aiming at Afrihost before this all happened. But now -.-

I can recommend Rocketnet or HomeConnect.

Moved from Telkom to Axxess then to CI then to Rocketnet - Rocketnet was awesome.
Then moved from Rocketnet to HomeConnect (for pricing) - just as awesome.

CI was great for a while - it all went downhill and fast. Was to be expected though.
These sort of services allows one to chop and change and chase either better service or better pricing or a good combination of both. It's relatively easy.

Managed to convince quite a number of folks to try HC - and all have ditched CI for HC

Will have a look at Home-Connect. I see Rocketnet has an upfront installation/activation fee which I am in no mood for. That was one reason to consider Afrihost. I see HC has none if you stay with them a year. Thanks (y)

I'm enjoying my fibre experience with HC, no speed issues and upgrading/downgrading and support has been phenomenal.

Not kidding myself though, I fully expect it to all go to shit at some point, it's inevitable, just like 99% of Service Providers. When it does, I'll simply jump ship to the next best thing through some trial and error and word of mouth.

I still don't quite get why people are sticking to their guns in staying with Ci after everything. People have a plethora of choices and provider loyalty just gets the consumer shafted in the end, as is evident over and over with Cool Ideas and Afrihost.
