So......I would like to see if I should plan on upgrading or consider upgrading anytime soon or if waiting another year or even 2 years is alright?

So specs are as follows (also below):
Core i5 3470
Gigabyte B75-D3H
Transcend 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
Samsung 850 Evo 256GB SSD
Toshiba 1TB HDD
Zotac GeForce GTX 1050Ti mini
Antec GX700 case
Corsair VS650 650w PSU

Monitor:
Dell 27" SE2717H 1080p 75Hz monitor

Peripherals:
Logitech G710+ (KB)
Logitech G102 (mouse)
Speedlink Coniux stereo headset

The PC is mostly used for gaming at this point. I don't intend to do video editing or anything like that.

Would like your opinions on what you'd consider doing in this situation.

I think it may be hard to recommend stuff without a budget, so let's go ahead and say I was looking more at a CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade if anything and budgeting about R4000 - R5000 but let me know what you think as I may just end up saving for end of this ear then.

Your bottleneck is the GPU at the moment. If you upgrade the CPU/Mobo/ram I doubt you will get higher fps, only benefit would be smoother gameplay as there will be less FPS dips depending if you get an i7 etc.

My advice get an i7 3770 for R1000 on carb and with the rest buy a 1070 or 1070ti if you can get it for less than 4k. You will get more out of this than just upgrading the CPU/mobo/ram

I forgot to mention:
I mostly play:
League of Legends (you could run this on a potato so it's not really a deciding factor [emoji14] )
Rainbow Six Siege (runs fine already)
Shadow of War (I'm also looking to play future AAA titles like Red Dead 2 (when it comes) and Cyberpunk 2077)

Starting with Apex Legend now as well.

This is pretty much all I'll play at the moment and going forward.

Also don't plan on changing monitor for a while (since well that would blow the budget :sigh: )

I've only noticed that newer more demanding games seem to be demanding newer Gen CPUs as the requirement (this being the lowest requirement but this doesn't obviously mean older Gen won't run the game).

GPU upgrade isn't a bad idea at all but just concerned that CPU and RAM is a bit dated now. Even if it won't affect gaming performance much (guess that's why they call it CUD).

I agree with finding an i7 3770 and then get another 8GB of RAM as well.

For GPU, I'd say a 1070Ti is a bit overkill since you only playing at 1080p/60Hz, ideally you'd want to get a GTX 1070 or a GTX 980 Ti (R3K-R4K), but, if your budget is a tight, even a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB (R2K-R2.5K) wouldn't be bad at all.

I know this is odd being quoted above your post but I am just reducing the number of posts I end up making :p

i7 3770 isn't a bad option (just age of components may be the only concerning factor - but then again they seem to last for years.)
otherwise maybe i7 4770? (although then mobo has to be changed 😣 )

GTX 1070Ti is definitely overkill - unless maybe I consider upgrading monitor at a later stage? (that could be a end of year upgrade option?
But GTX 1060 6GB would be a decent upgrade - only concern is how much of an upgrade it is over the 1050Ti 4GB?

Alway a difficult question.... I upgraded from a 2500k and regret it to this day - that beast was running at 4.5 on air, how demanding can a game get? (yes I do understand new architecture and different algorithm / computational power)
I would say unless you score a big bargain on new gen, don't go new gen as it means mobo, cpu and ram - yes you will make it with your budget so if the itch is there, scratch it [emoji16]
I know, so much conflicting opinions in one post.

This is exactly it, I can probably be comfortable with the i5 3470 for another 2 years since I play mostly less demanding games.
Am just pondering and considering some options.

GPU is probably the biggest factor for gaming so an upgrade is always welcome there I guess. SSD Upgrade was probably the best thing I ever did for windows boot time. But for games I literally put PUBG on it, no other game needs to be on SSD (for me that is).

Also, I am the type of guy who is content with being able to play a game (low/med/high) as long as it looks great (most games have great graphics) and runs at 60fps.

My personal opinion on the gpu is to get a rx card (8gb is a bonus) - way better bang for buck than the 1060. The Nvidia cards carry better resale (like a vw compared to opel) so buy a cheaper rx which is a few % "slower" than the Nvidia equivalent but cheaper % wise.

RX 580 8GB would be a good choice maybe and then I can make use of FreeSync I guess!

Don't underestimate the 470 8gb!
My only concern is you won't find a non-mined card. But mined cards shouldn't pose any major issues, RX 470 8GB would be good but it's age means less likely to find one under warranty. So it dies, then it's a complete loss.

Thanks for the ideas though, this has been very productive for me

Nothing wrong with mined cards in my opinion as long as it was looked after. Proper cooled room, underclocked etc.

Yeah, exactly and most should have been.

I second that there is no issues with a mined card. Bought one from @Leetpro for a build recently and I can tell you that card looks better than mine in my Pc.
That being said, majority of the chaps know what they're doing and the other 1% flat earthers could've done some damage to it by being, well..."clever" so just check who you're buying from.

Man I got a relatively old build, i5 3570k and 8gb ram. Couldn't even play Street Fighter V on my old GTX 560 Ti hahahaaaa. All I did was upgrade to a 1070 and had to upgrade PSU too. I'm only gaming on 1080p, so a 1070Ti or even 1080/1080Ti is a little overkill. Sounds like we're in the same boat... I picked up an ASUS GTX 1070 ROG STRIX off of Carbonite for under R4k and it was previously mined too. BEST decision I even made.

So an RX 580 8GB is better than a GTX 1060 6GB but falls short of the 1070 if my memory serves correct?

So I should maybe consider the RX580 first at R2500 and if I can find a GTX 1070 for R3500 or so, then it's worth it?

RX 580's at great prices.

Opinions on Zotac 1070 mini cards below?

Got mine here:

Card was previously mined, but it's working 100%. I tested it with The Witcher 3. Averaging around 80~90 fps @ 1080p. Had to do some research as I got 30 fps on Ultra, so ended up moving keeping Ultra but adjusting 2-3 settings to high to get those fps. It's a very GPU hungry game. Seen some guys complaining about low fps on 1080s!!! Bang for buck card

GTX 1070 is tempting, honestly though, not sure whether to fork out the extra cash. I don't intend to upgrade my monitor anytime soon to 144Hz or 1440p. Hence why I was just asking whether the GTX 1070 would be worthwhile or if a RX 580 8GB would be sufficient? (Maybe 1070 is worth it either way though???)

I recently bought a gtx 1070 because i don't upgrade my hardware often and i want to last me a few years. I game on a 1080p Ultrawide. I considered the 1060 but i felt the 1070 might be overkill now but will last me in the long run until my next upgrade.

Pondered the exact same knowing I'll be on 1080p 60hz for a good while still and got the 8gb RX580...I'm happy!

Well now I'm considering the Samsung S27A950D monitor as an upgrade from a Dell SE2717H if I do go for a GTX 1070 gpu, since then I can have 1080p 120Hz. So that is a good plan and I would actually be making use of the GTX 1070 card. Otherwise if I cannot afford this by month end, I will consider the RX580 8GB for better performance.

So the i7 3770 has arrived with the 8GB 1600MHz ram extra. So now that will be sorted.

I've definitely decided to go GTX 1070, might as well upgrade once and properly. However I am not as certain whether I want to upgrade to the Samsung S27A950D, I really do like the Dell SE2717H and I like 27" even at 1080p. I don't have an issue with the display size, I sit about 60cm - 70cm away from the screen and can still push the monitor back another 8cm if needed.

I've read some reviews and asked a friend about the Samsung S27A950D and most all agree that the monitor is superb looking with great colour reproduction for a TN panel and looking at the viewing angles, it isn't far off of my current monitor (not that I view the monitor from any angles anyway). Only differences being the 120Hz (3D which I won't use) and Glossy finish on the Samsung vs Matte (3H) on the Dell.

The Samsung will cost R3200 (with delivery cost included) and the Dell I would be able to recover maybe R2000 (just over a year old and still has original box and plastic on it so could maybe ask more).
So I feel it is a worthwhile upgrade but just not certain. I suppose I should just get it and compare the two and keep the one I like most??

Ended up getting a Sapphire Nitro+ RX570 4GB as a minor upgrade and to pair with AMD FreeSync.

Now running the monitor at 75Hz all the time and most games I aim to get 75Hz in now.

Was a very minor upgrade but I must say, AMDs drivers were easy to install and the control panel just seems nicer than Nvidia in certain aspects. Way better than having to use GeForce Experience!

And now I finally got the Samsung S27A950D 1080p 120Hz monitor and a MSI GTX 1070 Quicksilver OC GPU.

Was worth the upgrade!!!!
