Bought a steam voucher earlier, cannot redeem as steam says it’s already been redeemed.

Ticket logged with absa, seems like it’s not an isolated incident.

I’d advise to not use this service for the time being.

Not sure if it’s only absa related.

With Discovery, and sitting with same problem.
Spoke with few agents, and so far only thing I know is, Discovery uses 3rd party service for Steam (not direct integration), and will take way longer to investigate.

The reason why I tagged the Judge is he had the same crap yesterday through Stranded Bank

I've seen Steam disappear and reappear from Vitality Mall a few times over the past few weeks. I guess this is why.

Going to be somewhat hilarious if it turns out all the banks use the same third party service, and the third party service involved had a side business with voucher money laundering and has been subsequently shutdown.

Yeah, as soon as I saw this post, exactly what went through my brain.

Happened to me on Standard Bank too, R500 out of pocket and trying to resolve with the bank.

Have you had any luck with Steam directly? I haven't tried because in my case it happened as Std Bank triggered a fraud lock down because they thought it was a fraudulent purchase.

But if it happened to you with ABSA maybe its not the banks after all.

PS. Been off Carb today because I've been sorting out my new work laptop. :(

Std Bank fraud said straight the alert on my account was because they've seen an uptick in voucher fraud because its third party so hard to reverse.

Interesting, thanks for confirming.

I have not reported this to steam, thoughts are let absa do their own investigation and let’s see what happens without steam fiddling on their end that could affect the current “troubleshooting”.

Ofcourse if absa comes back with “not our problem” the strategy will change.

I was due a call back today from Std Bank. They called me while I was on Teams using my phone so I had to politely tell them to leave me alone and reschedule so I will set up a call. But given what you've said I'll see what they have to say about what is happening from the Std Bank side.

I would occasionally buy steam vouchers directly on the FNB app. Looking now, I see it's completely missing from the vouchers tab.

Glad i didn't try, but was thinking about it yesterday, yikes.

I also have the same problem with a R500 Steam voucher I bought last week. It can't be redeemed as either being used or code entered is incorrect. I also found out ABSA use a vendor, who partners with other banks like Discovery, to sell steam vouchers. I then went to egifts24 and their steam vouchers are sold by the same vendor and listed as unavailable. Today egifts24 don't even list steam vouchers in their product catalogue.

So I think it is true that all SA banks use the same vendor.

Same problem with Nedbank Greenbacks, bought R1000 voucher and same crap....

All of you are here posting about steam vouchers being stolen when bought from the banks, and that the banks are busy removing the functionality.

I got a mail from my bank 30mins ago offering steam/ps/xbox vouchers.

I need to arrange a Std Bank call still, has anyone gotten their money back?

I went to PnP to see if I could get a voucher there, they advertised them on the wall of the voucher booth. The Steam option on the PC disappeared though. The woman was rather confused.

Clearly some kak going on.

Ya'll stop being weirdos and just use a virtual card like everyone else :ROFLMAO:

Investec, right?

Looks like they're handling the voucher purchases via Mettlestate.

I'm keen to grab an Xbox one to save R500 on GTA VI but hopefully the Xbox 3rd party vendor is different from the vendor causing all the Steam issues

Correct.

I want to get 2x steam vouchers just for the next games I want to buy and not play.

Xbox vouchers are working via the Investec offer for anyone interested. Hopefully all good on the Steam front as well.
