My vehicle has a 5yr/75,000km service plan.
The service intervals are 15,000km (diesel).
It is currently at the dealership for its 4th annual service. Mileage is on 43,000km.
The manufacturer spec says that the cam belt must be changed at 4 years or 90,000km, whichever comes first.

Both the dealership and the underwriter of the service plan are saying that the cam belt is not covered because the service plan does not reach 90,000km.
I'm saying it should be covered because the vehicle is within 5yrs and within 75,000km and it is a prescribed service item for the current service.

Am I taking crazy pills? Shouldn't it be covered?

No you're right. I would insist it replaced under the plan, since it covers the time-side of the plan.

PS what car, what dealer and what service plan underwriter?

if it is stated that it needs replacing at 4y then it should be covered by service agreement, unless stated in the agreement that it is excluded.

I'm awaiting the T&Cs (which were never sent to us by the way). Pretty sure they'll clear up what's covered and what isn't.

Received the policy wording at long last:
The administrator will only pay for the replacement of a cambelt or accessory belt if it is recommended by Renault at a specified service interval or time period, whichever occurs first, within the duration of the plan.

I'd say that wins the case for me. Time to make a(nother) phone call.

What car is it and at what dealership?

Ok fine, go get your pitchforks.
2014 Renault Duster 1.5dci. Renault Bryanston. Service plan administrated by Liquid Capital.

I agree that it is in your favour. Good luck there. Christopher Matthews is the service manager there if i remember correctly.

He is indeed. I've been dealing with him directly and he's done a good enough job. While I have complaints with the way Renault has handled this story, my major issue is with Liquid Capital as they are the ones declining the service plan claim.

AH okay. Well I hope you get this sorted soon, wonder what would happen if that belt caused issues while still under motorplan.

If the belt fails before it's due to be replaced then I would see that as a warranty claim.
I have refused to take the car back from Renault this whole time. If I take it back and drive it around now, the warranty will fall away as I have not stuck to the service requirements. Norrafok am I touching that vehicle until this is sorted.

Ha ha ha... Hope you not using Uber while it is in the shop, or if you are they need to pay for that :p

Ah shit. This does not give my any confidence. I extended my service plan with LiquidCapital as it costs around the same as the 3 services would have. Balls. Hope I will be fine.

You are 100% in the right. Oil and other items have a time lifespan, not just a use lifespan. You can't ignore a service because you've done low mileage after X time. They are putting your cars health at risk.
