9700k overheating

Just did a quick test again now. don't know if you guys can zoom in. as you can see the voltages much lower bleow 1.3v and clock around 4.3ghz and Temps are at 100 degrees

This might be a very stupid question but how many or rather what type of fan setup are you running push? Pull? 4 fan push-pull?

Just asking cause I once installed fans blowing towards eachother and had this result.

Both fans on the radiator push/ exhaust air out of the chassis.

ok so my conclusion and findings so far:

- remove cooler, apply thermal past and refit the cooler properly,
- connected sata cable and usb cable to the motherboard and pump and installed corsair icue software and set pump to extreme setting
- cpu fans also at maximum at temps higher then 70 degrees
- even on lower voltages and lower core clock, temps would hit 100c on full load
- idling temps between 35 - 45
- one pump is hot and other cold

All above is with default bios and would hit temps of 100 degrees on full load

Disabling intel turbo boost in bios seems to fix temps on max load. However, core clock is fixed at 3.6ghz

What i still need to try before consider RMA:
- Test another cooler
- Test CPU in another system

So far thanks for all inputs and comments.

What ive found is that the asus motherboards are thin. To mount the cooler properly i used washers at the back of the board so that the cooler plate was more secure and sufficient pressure on the cpu. If your cooler is loose maybe give this a go

Can you please drop your voltage of your CPU to 1.25 or even lower, say 1.22, and see if that helps?

I think your cooler pump is dead though.

Try the Hyper 212 and see if that changes anything.

Did put the voltage manually to 1.25 and still hit 100 degrees. Intel burn test also give same results but totally freezes my pc at 100 degrees. one pump very hot and other one cold.

need to get another cooler to be certain.

Random thought, does your pc feel sluggish when it thermal throttles?

Perhaps is not 100 degrees and it's reading Temps incorrectly?

Yes, sending the cooler for RMA this week.

Did you test the Hyper 212 in the end? Did it make a difference?

My 9700k also runs a bit hot but apparently it's normal in my case, 100% cpu usage after 2 hours it hits around 74c, but I figured it's below 80c so I'm not worried. That's at 1.29v 5ghz.

I'd love for you to report your temps with the new cooler when you get it

From what I've read, it's most probably your cooler.
I'd have also checked if there was a bios upgrade for your motherboard. It is a Z370 so needed an update to run the 9th gen CPU and always a possibility of an "unpolished" bios

Hi Guys,

Update: So the cooler was send for RMA and it seems like the pump was defective. They replaced the pump and hopefully will receive it this week. Will let you guys know once i have received and tested.

Can I just add a note that Evetech's case has two fans exhausting fresh air that the intakes just brought into the case.

Below is just my opinion) and perhaps some usable advice?) on motherboard setting apart from the fact your AIO was busted.

Otherwise with the 9700k I received yesterday my Gigabyte board was averaging 1.275v at stock and that correlated to around 4.6GHz. I since disabled a bunch of garbo settings, multicore enhancement, and proceeded to set my voltage at 1.275v for 4.8GHz. I then adjusted my LLC and some other current setting found on Gigabyte boards. I'd suggest picking a frequency you're happy with, trying to get a respectable voltage, stress test and then monitor if your voltage draw decreases by an adequate amount (for my money roughly 0.025v while at full load). You want to ensure that your LLC isn't super high. Also make sure that your system agent LLC isn't too aggressive and that your system agent as well as other voltage settings are either MANUALLY set to default by standard or slightly adjusted to benefit your overclock stability by you yourself. You do not want your CPU ever boosting with a voltage of 1.4 unless that was across just one of your cores perhaps (9th gen does have per core turbo and that may be why you see some cores boost with 1.4v).

Whatsup guys,

Got some good news!

So my H115i was replaced with a new H115i Pro!

I immediately installed and fired up the system. Ran prime and intel burn test for about 30min on extreme settings and my max temp was 65 degrees! and idling around 30s. Note that today it was 42 degrees where i stay.

So i can safely say that this problem is solved. All the inputs and comments in this thread are much appreciated.

I also want to give a special thanks to the team @Wootware Computers for their humble assistance. I was not even the original owner of the cooler but they treated me as if i just purchased a new product from them. Kept me informed by the minute and ensured that the RMA process was handled as quick as possible 🙌🙌. Will from now on only purchase all my hardware from Wootware Computers, due to their excellent after sale service. Thanks!!! 👏👏👏👏

I take it you have an air conditioner then? Your idling temp cannot be less than your ambient temp, it’s against the 2nd law of thermodynamics :) Even if the temp is 42c outside, that would make your house in the high 30s, and ambient temp is always at least 4 degrees less than your idling temp, in my case it's 5 degrees. So my idling temp is 29c because I run my aircon at 24c. It gets cold if I run my aircon lower than that lol since my room is always closed when it's on.

Glad to hear you got sorted! I presume thats at stock settings?
