I got home late last night, and just tried to go 5.2ghz at 1.32v. It didn't last too long, like 5 minutes before it crashed so I decided I would rather see how low I can go on 5.0ghz. So far I went to 1.23v stable. I didn't do too much tweaking after that. I proceeded to reinstall windows because I was still using my old windows 10 from launch rofl.

I will tweak more tomorrow and report my findings.

Skalas Skalas my batch number is L922D758

The thing that irks me a bit, is that my Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz rgb seems to be a bit of a bore. If I drop the timings less than XMP which is 16,16,18,36 @ 3200mhz, I can't get it to boot. Which to me is surprising, I would expect at least 15,15,15,28 at 1/2T. And that's even at 1.35v. So not really sure what the hell is going there, can't win them all hey! Or is there maybe some other setting that will influence my ram timings that I could tweak? I normally just upped the volts to 1.35 and proceed to OC. My ripjaws V 2666mhz for example was rated CL15, I managed 3000mhz at 15,15,15,28 and it booted like a boss. Didn't even bother to push it further. Think I might have downgraded with this set. G.skill from now on.

Are people still overclocking uncore/Nb these days? I see mine is running at 4.3ghz, any use pushing that?
Corsair memory is a lottery. Check what dram chips you have. If it's Hynix, it wont do much better than XMP.
If it's Samsung b die or micron they can usually be pushed very hard.

If you buy Ballistix they you're guaranteed micron and in rare cases Samsung. They don't use Hynix at all.

Yip it's Hynix alright, I checked last night. I also thought that must be the reason. I'm very happy to return it to Takealot, and will never buy Corsair again. I bet Dominators will probably not be Hynix, but I've never been disappointed by G.Skill.

So I got the G.skill (G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GTZR TridentZ RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200MHz CL16 1.35V Desktop Memory - Wootware) instead of the one I listed above because that thing had rough timings and it was aimed at Ryzen 3 builds, both of these sets are hynix by the way.

But for some reason clocked a hell lot better than the Corsair ones. I think personally those Corsair ones were faulty because I couldn't even touch the timings without it crashing, and if it did crash it was hard to get the system going again. With the G.Skill tampering with timings was so easy and if it didn't boot, I could just switch off and on again which brought me back to the OC failed bios screen.

It worked for a while at 3200mhz 15-15-15-28, but crashes after a bit, I could up the volts to 1.4v on the ram and it would definitely be stable then. But I decided to go for 16-16-16-34 at 1.35v, since the difference is so negligible and I'm happy with those timings anyway. It's the timings I was aiming for from the start on the Corsair but even at 16-18-18-38 which is its rated XMP profile it was failing memory tests. It was a bad batch!

So here is my 24/7 system, basically cpu @ 5.0ghz at 1.25v, mem @ 3200mhz @ 16-16-16-34, and gpu @ +60 on the core and +400mhz (dual so 800mhz) on the memory.

This will be my system until the 3080 Ti launches. In which case I will just buy that and stick with this setup for like half a decade. Upgrading CPU, mobo and memory has little impact these days :)
