Sup everyone.

OK, so my 5ghz WiFi at home is a problem for me.
I've got a DLink DIR-825 router and i know the 5ghz SSID is working but my Huawei P20 Pro doesn't pick it up the SSID. If does however pick up other peoples 5ghz in the complex. My housemates iPhone picks up the 5ghz SSID

So, its either there is an issue with the router or my phone or the 2 just don't like each other.
I suppose if needs be i'll have to buy another router but want some advise if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it.

TIA

Check the channel that the AP is broadcasting on - I had this problem with my old phone when my unifi AP was broadcasting on either extreme end of the frequency range.

Not all bands are available in all countries.
South africa does not allow 5GHz bands: 7,8,9,11,12,16,42,50,58,106,114,122,138, and anything above 142.

If your router is set to Japan for example, your phone (which is set to ZA by the cellphone company) will not see it.
Also, a Macbook is the same. You have to specially set the country to Japan to be able to see the channel 14 in 2.4GHz.

Are both the SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHZ the same? If so change that pls.

I would try a different phone and then mess around with the channel

Have changed the band to 36 and modified the name slightly.
So will see when i get home.

change the channels width to 20/40.

Found a few AC devices that dont play well with the wide faster channel width

I always set the channel and width to static details. Once this is sorted, do a sitemap with a laptop and adjust things accordingly.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Will check when i get home and play around as well.
Try to add the network manually....don't know how you do it on a huawei. Also, that wifi ssid....try a slightly shorter one ;)

Thanks for the help everyone.
All sorted now.

Been out of technical for a while now and clearly i need upgrade the brain storage :p
