3D Printing.. where you guys at!!!

Right,

So i have acquired a small printing opportunity with a local business owner to supply him a set amount of printed items per month, that could eventually grow quite largely,

Could someone point me in the right direction when it comes to properly pricing ones prints,

Basically i have it as :

Filament cost * grammage of print job / 1000 to get cost of print

Then electrical cost per kw of units used added to that,

What am i missing besides me changing filament in-between ( different colours ) and putting the items together ( roughly an hour to assemble for that one order basically )

Can pm me direct , as i am sure everyone does it differently with different sums etc

There is a new filament manufacturer in South Africa called Funkiments. They are producing the best and cheapest ABS I've worked with. R170 per KG

They manufacture naked spools which you put on a spool you print yourself. Re-use your spool for the next roll you buy.

Here's some pics:

Only ABS?

For now yes. He started making the ABS as it was readily available. Sourcing raw PLA at affordable prices is a pain in the butt.
He is nearly done with his second line setup, with 2 more after that. PLA is next, followed by PETG and TPU.

My winning recipe for ABS with very little issues:
Enclosure + Glass bed + Magigoo

abs is easy to print, onces you do a few small mods, and get the settings right in your slicer
Enclosure is what I need.

I saw that IKEA Lack tables coming to South Africa: LACK side table, 55x55cm, Black

Hiya

So besides the Cctree PLA filament i have been buying at DIY Electronics
Is there any other brands which are good quality?

I have seen the Esun brand, but was wondering if the small price increase for those rolls justifies anything more than a name ?

Cheers

Hey Guys,

So here is a request, I need help. I want to print a figurine for a friend for her birthday, but I have zero experience in editing files to change it to what I need. Is there one of you guys that can help me with editing and/or printing it (for a fee of course, can't expect someone to do this for free)? I have an STL file that is very close to what I need, as well as what it needs to be changed to.
If any of you guys are willing to help a fellow carbie out here, please pm me

Thanks!!!

so got some funkiments abs this week, really impressed with the quality, and at R170 a roll, its cheap, just need to print a spool for it

Has anyone built a dry box?

I was looking for the following locally:
Lock&Lock 2.5L Round
since the spool I ordered from 3dstore.co.za was vacuum sealed, but whoever packed it for the courier then decided to cut the vacuum seal open to add some nozzles [emoji1751]

Anyway, back to the dry box. I've found what seems to be a nice sized box from Westpack with a gasketed lid. Could fit 6 spools I guess.

Plan to print a few of these to hold them: TUSH - The Ultimate Spool Holder by filamentry

Hope someone can help.

Long story short, my mom was diagnosed with lung and breast cancer couple of months ago. before the chemo started, she watched this show on Netflix called Emily in Paris. In this series, the girl has this digital camera phone case - so ever since then, my mom wants this case for her phone. this one - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KS2353N?tag=hellomagazi00-20 . the problem comes in where she uses a Samsung note 9 and I have not managed to find one on amazon for a note 9. I managed to find this one (similar) for her phone Classic Camera 2.0 but it isn't the one like the original link (Does not have the neck strap) i posted and they dont ship to SA. I worked out how much it would cost to ship it to my buddy in the UK and then from UK to SA and it came to R1850 at the time.. no way in hell im paying that much for a case lol. Wondering if anyone is able to 3D print this case for me to buy as a gift for her.

Any help is welcomed. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your moms diagnosis - and it's heartwarming to hear you want to get her something special. Good for you.
Firstly, that link you found with the sold out item looks more like a vinyl sticker/case than the actual thing you're aiming to get your mom. There are 2 pictures on that site showing the item, there is a side view which clearly shows it's not a 3D object as such.
Paying all that money for what is essentially a vinyl sticker would indeed be ludicrous.

Secondly, 3D printing will not offer anything remotely near the product you're aiming for. There aren't any readily available designs done for it (as far as my short searches show) and having to create one from scratch is really going to be more effort than it's worth IMO. Designing, printing, finishing, painting etc etc etc will be quite the challenge .Often times buying a finished product works better than designing and printing the product.

Check this link

The device dropdown on that page has Note 9 options. And it's an actual 3 dimensional case and it's damn stunning and not some vinyl sticker.(as far as my old eyes can tell :D)

Also, there appears to be other options on etsy that may prove more cost effective.

All the best in finding the right item and hope your moms health improves.

Damn. I truly appreciate this! I don't know much about 3D printing so what you said about the painting etc actually makes a ton of sense. It seems I have been out-googled haha never considered etsy. Appreciate the kind wishes and for taking some time out to help me. down the etsy rabbit hole i go.

Fitted the mosquito and it prints like a dream.

Heats up fairly quickly on a 40w 24v cartridge and even on a Bowden setup, it seems to work well.
Printing at around 80mm/s, 0.2mm layer height, ABS and so far the prints are coming out fantastically.

Will do a long term review and look at factors such as jamming after a few long prints, but on two one hour prints I didn't have any issues.

Nice. Those hotends are crazy expensive, glad to know they at least work.

If you like ABS you should give Funkiments a go. The best price and works incredibly well.

Was dubious to start with and thought it was going to be an expensive experiment...

Pity I'm not in EL anymore, I will definitely give it a go!
Thanks for the heads up!

Why is it a pity you not in EL? I’m in EL, what secret printing shop is here that I don’t know of?

Apparently, there is someone selling decent ABS in EL.
