Hi everyone, im looking to upgrade to 3 phase power as it seems that i have reached my limit. Everyone tells me just upgrade to 3 phase but im not clued up with that, isnit really so easy to do? And isnit expensive? Also i live in a complex, will that be a limitation?

Why get a 3 phase supplier when you do t have any 3 phase equipment. It’s a lot more costly. Is it not possible to get a 2nd single phase connection into your property.

Do you live in a sectional title complex and do you pay the body corp / home owners for electricity or the municipality? The municipality will anyway need to check if it’s available or not.

Ahaha ok you see thats how little i know, didnt even know you can only get a second phase

I live in a sectional title yes but the electricity is prepaid meter through tshwane that i pay personallly

Out of interest how have you reached your limit?
Mining, think i actually bought a 5700 from you a while ago haha

Basically sitting on 12kw, so when the geyser is heating and tumbledryer is on the power trips, if i cant upgrade power then ill just install gas geyser to free up the stress i guess

Ah. Why did I think you were in CPT. 🤷‍♂️

Well, at least you don’t have to worry about winter heating requirements.

You can change the geyser element to a lower power element… just means it takes longer to heat the water. Solar geyser / evacuated tubes are good, but not in winter and especially not with the weather we have been having recently. Gas may be your best bet

3 Phase <=80 Amp (New meter box and new cable to be provided on the boundary)
Connection R13 000.00
Capacity fee R36 300.00
Total ex vat R49 300.00
Inc vat R56 202.00
2016-2017 tariff so probably a bit more than that in reality. Source, city power web site

Wow thanks man, feel like a knob now for not doing a basic search but thanks a lot man! Mmm tbh ill probably be cheaper off with a gas geyser then and if i want to expand then i just use a room at my parents place 🤣

How is that going to help? He needs more than 12kw. This is a 2700w generator.
I was kidding :) besides power, the noise and cost would not be justified.

He would need to start solar and gas projects to save where he can and then get extra power from his municipality. Only viable option really without incurring too much cost.

Don't spend more money yet, just wait a few months to see what impact pos will have. Rather get as much ROI now as you can. It doesn't look likely that it will get delayed again.

If you are looking for the cheapest solution to shed just a little power I would say drop your geyser element to a 1KW unit.
Your water wil take longer to heat up but chances are you probably have a 3KW element in at the moment that shaves 2KW off of the peak.

Otherwise before I would go gas, I would rather buy a heatpump, gas is convenient, not cheap.

Just mine elsewhere. There are plenty of options, just pm me if you need a secure location with cheap power.
