2026 Footy World Cup

Spain definitely out played France.
Penalty or no penalty, if it did not touch his arm I think it was one, they deserved to win.

@Shredder247 you were spot on, their defence was/is really impressive. They did not give France much of a gap to play their game.

Fully agree, they definitly out played France and their ball control and defence were miles better.

France left me feeling a bit like the Portugal game, like they somewhere after that penalty goal they just lost momentum. All in all if Spain keeps this play up they might just win this world cup.

That penalty was a bit of a controversial call for some people, but I think it was the right decision. Yamal did really well to bait that penalty out.

I guessed the Spain defence would be good, but they even surprised me. They somehow managed to shut Mbappe down and also stop all the through balls that France attempted to play. If Spain plays like that in the final then I don't think there's currently a team that can win them.

England 1 - 2 Argentina

Can confirm it’s NOT coming home again.

A cagey first half with no shots on target from either team but things came alive in the second half. A pinpoint accurate finish from Gordon after which Tuchel decided to park the bus to his detriment.

A cracking goal from Enzo Fernandez to get things level followed by a late header from Martinez to win it. Both goals assisted by the magical Messi.

$1 billion on Argentina, since it's fixed an ol, I expect everyone who still believes it's fixed will be putting their money where their mouths are 🤣 I wanted England to win so this whole match-fixing debacle would end; I was rooting for them, but Kane was getting no openings... looks like it will move on to the finish line. Though I think after those 2 assists, getting fouled and overlooked, Messi is confirmed as the GOAT!!!

Agreed. At least there were no contentious calls from the ref last night.

If anything, he could have handed out a few more yellow cards, but England really only have themselves to blame for retreating after their goal. They should have doubled down and then if they still lost, they could at least say they gave it everything they had. Tuchel is inevitably going to be scapegoat for those questionable substitutions.

But let's not detract from an incredible turnaround from Argentina. Messi really did step up and take that game by the scruff of the neck. A moment of brilliance from Enzo Fernandez also helps. Say what you will about him, but he always shows up for big occasions. That was Argentina at their best in the second half.

I'm pumped for the final now

I've seen many people saying that Messi was offside for that first assist. I don't think he was.

I saw a stat this morning that said England only had 12% possession from the time Gordon scored a goal until when Enzo scored his.

THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT!!!! THE GOAT!!!!😂

It was like watching Egypt all over again... I told my son to wait until after 78 minutes, since this is something I've observed them doing 🤣
It's also why Messi paces himself so well, though his positioning isn't always great; he finds himself in the right place at the most unexpected times and flows right through their defences when they're tired. That's a magician on the field; watching him play FOR his team is what makes him a legend. I truly hope he's fit enough for 2030 when they win the World Cup for the 3rd time in a row 🤣

Yeah I was also waiting for the 80th minute or so for Argentina to come back, but I got a bit nervous up until they scored in the 85th minute. Messi is not perfect and he losses the ball at times, but he's able to change the pace and direction of the game with the ball at his feet. That for me makes him the GOAT. He completed the most dribbles out of anyone in the whole world cup in one game last night and he provided the assists so he really did deserve the MOTM trophy.

I also hope he plays in the 2030 world cup, but I'm also afraid of the expectations people have from him. He won't be able to play the world cup while not being the best. He said 9 months ago that he'll only compete in this world cup if he feels his very best and so far he has delivered amazing results.

I find this narrative so funny. Better teams that should've met Argentina in R16/QF/SF shat the bed in the groups, and everyone keeps blaming bias.

I agree, it's not Argentina's fault that teams like Germany and Brazil failed to progress, shit happens, it's soccer, players and teams have bad days too, they are human.

At this point, the whole Egypt narrative has nothing to do with the game anymore; sore losers will be sore, and most of its supporters know that too; it's political.

I have to commend Harry Kane for shaking Argentinian players' hands after the match; that kind of sportsmanship made him a winner last night.

This was a very tough world cup. Some big teams got knocked out by unlikely opponents. Even Argentina were on the ropes multiple times. No one could've predicted that the world cup would play out like it did. Argentina got "lucky" with their opponents after not losing a single match. People will always find something to complain about.

Exactly.

Like the 2007 RWC. Is it really our fault that Australia, New Zealand and France shat the bed before the final? We beat England, who beat France (and Australia), who beat New Zealand - and Argentina, who beat Scotland and France (twice).

Any one willing to name an unbiased best 11 of the tournament?
This is a fun idea. You can build your team here for free: https://www.sofascore.com/squad-builder/world-cup

Let's keep it interesting and say that you can only pick 2 players from each country.

Here's my best XI. Pixelcore is still down for some reason so I've used Imgur:

Damn this was hard to put together but I reckon this lot were the best performers of the tournament.

FYI had to go Davies over Cucurella due to @thecurto rule of max 2 players from one country and the fact that nobody else really stood out at LB

Solid list and great pick with Manzambi. I’m excited to see him in the Premier League next season

This is a bonkers game. England were 4-0 up at half time. France have now scored 3 in the second half and there are 15 minutes left. GAME ON

Full time: France 4 - 6 England

What a game! The perfect curtain raiser for the final today.

Bellingham put it to bed in the final minute. A record breaking brace from Mbappe which could seal the golden boot for him. But it was the Saka hat trick that did the most damage. Tuchel must have forgot he was sitting on the bench against Argentina
