2026 Footy World Cup

Not sure you guys will watch but looks like this World Cup might not be a special one due to some shoddy organising by FIFA and the USA.

Sadly Bafana Bafana seem to have lost momentum. They were disappointing in Afcon and also didn't do well in the two friendlies against Panama.

Japan looks like a team to watch. They beat England yesterday, Brazil a couple of months ago and Spain and Germany in the last World Cup. If a non Euro or South American team goes far this year, it will either be them or perhaps Morocco again.
 
How many countries you reckon are willing to send hostages to Trumptopia? and will Trump let all those foreigners in without a trade deal (unless they speak Afrikaans of course)?
 
Folks, let me tell you—nobody does it like we do. Nobody. The USA World Cup? It’s going to be the greatest World Cup, maybe in history. People are already saying it. They’re calling me, they’re writing—they say, “Sir, this is going to be unbelievable.” And you know what? They’re right.


So many goals. I mean, you watch these games—goal after goal after goal. It’s incredible. The fans love it. The players love it. Everybody loves it. We’re not talking about boring games, okay? We’re talking about excitement, action—real action.


And the teams? The best teams in the world. So many teams, from everywhere. They’re coming here, they want to be here. Why? Because it’s the United States. It’s the biggest stage, the brightest lights. Nobody can match it.


The stadiums—beautiful stadiums, the best you’ve ever seen. Packed crowds, incredible energy. You walk in, and you just feel it. It’s electric. People are cheering, chanting—it’s something very special.

And we’re hosting it like nobody else could. Organization, security, everything running smoothly. People will look at this World Cup and say, “Wow, that was perfect.” Absolutely perfect.

So remember this: the USA World Cup—great teams, so many goals, unbelievable excitement. It’s going to be huge. Truly, truly huge..

Hostages not likely, but a much higher chance of people being stopped at the airport and denied entry or being deported with the concentrated drive of ICE agents fulfilling their mandate.

Hopefully deport that rubbish English team, especially any Arsenal players.
Also deny entry to Tuchel, who has been on a hunger strike his whole life

Will be interesting to see what he does if USA flops which can happen as they were just threaded by Belgium lol.

Remember when Fikile lost it with Bafana and went on a rant about them being "a bunch of losers". I can see that again happening but Trump goes even deeper.

Trump did after all post that he was "glad" when the US women's team lost last time as some of their players openly spoke against him.
 
This World Cup is going to be in the pits with Trump going bonkers. Italy really saved their fans a lot of money and stress by not qualifying again.
 
I don't know if it is true but I saw that the tickets are crazy expensive. Like $1000+ for poor seating positions and even more crazy numbers in the resale of tickets

I am waiting for ICE to "accidentally" detain foreign players as they enter the stadiums.

You were right on the money. Iraq's vice captain was detained for 7 hours of 'questioning' coming into the US.

And there's already been a shooting near the England camp where 9 people have been injured.

Really hoping that everyone can put the politics aside for the next 6 weeks and focus on the game but I'm worried that vibe is going to be ruined by empty stadiums due to the insane ticket prices.

Either way, I reckon this is France's year. They're going to be scoring goals for fun with Cherki, Mbappe, Doue, Dembele and Olise up front
 
I really hope we do well but I have my doubts, tough group we are in, my other team is Germany, hopefully this time they actually can do something 🤡

But France does have an insane team, I think probably 1 of their best squads ever.

I remember the last RWC was in 4K and was a pleasure to watch.

I also seem to remember watching the last FIFA World Cup in 4K as well. No such luck this time unfortunately.

Well I did manage to find a way to watch World Cup in at least 8 000 - 10 000 bitrate which is fantastic, I think I read DSTV was around the 3 000 mark.

The 2022 Fifa World Cup was basically the only advertised 4K thing to help sell the Explora Ultra

Other than that:
Some random EPL matches in 4K during testing in leading up to that world cup
The 2023 Rugby World Cup in 4K was planned but cut due to costs
The 2024 SA20 final in 4K on a test channel, probably a local test for their IP1 broadcast truck
The 2024 Olympics in 4K was planned but cut due to costs.

Sad because the content and infrastructure is available, but it's all hands on deck for cost cutting at Multichoice.
