Hi all

So before i end up going to a mechanic as money is tight. I was hoping to get some advice here first and try and troubleshoot and hopefully fix my issue myself before having to spend to much.

So last week my wife's car started to struggle with getting the rpm up. At first when u start the car and pull off everything seems fine, however when switching to second its like the car has no power and struggles to gain revs. even when going around the corner I have to sometimes gear back to first because second is useless. Then eventually even with clutch in, the car doesn't want to gain revs. I have to step on the gas, wait for it to sluggishly reach like 2500 rpm, and slowly release the clutch to get somewhere. Then I have to go high revs so that when I gear to second or third or whatever its at a high enough rpm so that the rpm doesn't drop below 2000 otherwise I have to gear back to first or step on clutch to the gears climb up and slowly release clutch again.

Please any advice would be super

Never owned a Hyundai but my Suzuki swift I owned a few years back had a similar issue. Turned out it was the clutch slipping. From your description it sounds similar. Most likely need a clutch replacement.

If you take it to a reputable independent mechanic they probably won’t charge you to diagnose the issue and will give you indicative pricing.

Slipping clutch is very easy to test. Put the car in gear, step on the brakes, let go of the clutch. If the car doesn't stall and continues to idle - Its the clutch.
DO NOT do that for prolonged periods though, if it isn't the clutch you'll burn it to hell and back.

Very happy to hear that.
That is one of the cheapest outcomes possible.
