They aren’t...that’s how the material looks, although the photos do make it looks different than what it looks in person.
It’s that soft touch-leather like material.

It’s brown dude...colour wise it’s pretty close to the pics. 😁
Let me say that the couch looks, perhaps, old and maybe even damaged to me in the pics but in person you can see that it isn’t.
