Help, please! Before I pull all my hair out.

I've configured many Netgear modem/routers, but I just can't get this one to connect on my 12Mbps ADSL2+ line. I've read this thread, tried everything that's been suggested by those who struggled, reset, firmware update, etc., but nothing has worked. When I plug in my cheapie D-Link dual band router, it works perfectly.

-The Netgear shows my line stats, attenuation and noise, but it cannot auto detect the line using the genie setup. It just spins and spins.
-The Netgear gives me a downstream SNR of 6.4, and the D-Link 10.
-The Netgear gives me an attenuation of around 34, and the D-Link 40 (worse, I know).
-I've tried every configuration on the Netgear, Other/Other, PPPoA, VPI 8 & VCI 35, LLC, auto IP/DNS, NAT on, etc.

-For some bizarre reason, I cannot see the 5G WiFi network from the Netgear, despite configuring it and it showing as active?!

I've called Telkom, and everything is fine on their side, with both modems connected to my line.

I'm at a loss here. All I can think of is that I have some obscure ADSL mode which is not compatible with the Netgear?

Or a faulty router?

Same issue as in above link, where router was RMAed.

5ghz will only appear if your adapter/device supports 802.11a , as for getting your Internet working haha its a struggle since i too spent hours and hours trying to figure it out with the aid of Mr Mizer and bam it's working.

If you'd like you can show me your settings and block out your username , password so I can compare mine and try to get everything working?

Have got 5G devices, they work fine with the D-Link's 5G.

Turned the Netgear on after being off for a few hours and fiddled a bit. The last setting I changed was the channel to '112(DFS)', and now miraculously I have a 5G connection.

Yes, please take a look before I try again.

Morning, sorry just saw your post. Did you reset via the button at the back or factory reset in the settings?

Check that the Wifi / general region is set to Africa (or Other if Africa is a not listed) .

what is difference between PPPoA and PPPoE?

As I understand it, PPPoA = PPP over ATM, and PPPoE = PPP over Ethernet. PPPoE is used e.g. in the case of fibre where the router, connected to the CPE over Ethernet, dials the fibre connection.

I've always used PPPoA for DSL. Miraculously, thanks to @Spontaneous.Spinach 's help, changing my setting from PPPoA to PPPoE worked for me...

As for WiFi, I'm using Europe. The first night with an ADSL connection, 5G worked great. It then dropped the next day, and stopped working until I tweaked things again. I changed the WiFi channel again (this time to a non DFS one), and also dropped the speed from 1300Mbps to 600Mbps. It's been stable ever since.

Definitely the weirdest experience I've had with a router. :)

lol, so my "indirect" questioning was correct :D

asked it because I saw yours is set on PPPoA and I am pretty sure I have always used PPPoE (although currently it is on a PPPoA/PPPoE)

Could have been me just having a numpty moment - checked my TP-Link router at Mom's house and it's also set to PPPoE. Though my D-Link at my place says PPPoA/ATM. Hmmm.

What's strange is that I did try the PPPoE setting on this Netgear. But I think the problem then was that I was using my D-Link's telephone cable. The Netgear's is different, and has more active pins on either end...

So one should definitely use the included telephone cable.

Guys quick question.

I cant seem to connect via ethernet, any suggestions? Wifi seems fine, but my LIT Box is connected via cable, but doesn't pick up.

Hey,
