    Upgrade Advice

I agree but OP does run virtual machines so I think that’s why 64gigs is a thing. I would think that 32gigs would be enough though.

    Upgrade Advice

What is your budget? More than 8 cores usually hurts gaming performance as the CPU will have more than 2 CCDs. 5800X3D would be a cheaper upgrade path but AM4 is (sort of) a dead end platform. A good deal on an AM5 would have a better upgrade path but it will be more expensive. I would...

PC Crashes (Out of video memory)

Use Testmem5 with the ANTA777 extreme config to test the memory for 2 passes. Remove one of the DIMMS and try that. Update your BIOS. Could be a faulty RAM chiplet that's within the first 16gigs of RAM so when it starts to fill up, you get issues.

Extending WiFi to another building for an European home...

R2500 for fibre isn’t bad but CAT6 is better value. I do love fibre. It’s fundamentally a top rate technology - Wi-Fi on the other hand is a pain in the arse.

Extending WiFi to another building for an European home...

Wellll yessss, sure. CAT6 would be required. Fibre is amazing but can be expensive. Out of interest, Can you price 20m of fibre with connectors and networking equipment?

Extending WiFi to another building for an European home...

Just run an outdoor rated Ethernet cable like the sheep said Wi-Fi is poor for long distances. Get a cable that’s reinforced, some passthrough RJ45 connectors and a crimper. Net result, 10gbs connection without the wifi dropouts from interference. You could try a Ethernet over power...

Do I need a thermal pad for a SSD in a laptop?

Yup. Depending on the location of the SSD and the airflow and other factors, a thermal pad might make things worse.
  10. JollyJamma

Do I need a thermal pad for a SSD in a laptop?

No, you don't need a thermal pad for an SSD, especially that one. People freak out about heat and an SSD but unless you're hammering the SSD with regular small I/O requests, it won't make a difference. The only situation where you may see a small temperature increase is when you're...

Shoutout for excellent repaste/repad service dropped around 15 to 20 degrees on GPU

This was when I still lived in South Africa so it's a few years ago now but I'll dig up the details of the broker. I'm sure that pricing has increased a lot.

Shoutout for excellent repaste/repad service dropped around 15 to 20 degrees on GPU

I said I damaged it accidentally if that’s helpful. They were only annoyed that I was under insured and I had to up my household cover from R200 000 to R750 000 (ish) if I recall correctly as the GPU was expensive to replace. I’d been with them a while and they didn’t ask too many questions...

Shoutout for excellent repaste/repad service dropped around 15 to 20 degrees on GPU

Glad someone on here knows how to do a proper repaste. Shout out to me for doing a Liquid Metal repaste of my 980 ti back in 2017 and getting Liquid Metal all over the PCB which killed the card. Shout out to the member on here who knew how to clean it and took the GPU off my hands for R250...

    [Wanted]  Huawei WS319 Router

Hi all My mom needs to return her really old router to WebAfrca which was a loan unit and we are now moving to Afrihost. I cannot find said router which is specifically a Huawei WS319 Router model. I have an old Netgear model that will work but isn't ideal as Webafrica can be massive ducks...

Advice on Trade Workstation laptop for Gaming Laptop

Why do you want a gaming laptop? Do you make heavy use of CUDA cores for work purposes? I can assure you that a gaming laptop will have a ton of heat and the battery won't last very long with next to zero resale value but if you just need the raw horsepower and you go in with the understanding...

    Wootware GPU Replacement advice

This is the same GPU as OP and I just looked at a review: OP, what chassis do you have? I'm getting the hunch that you were restricting the airflow in your chassis too much with the GPU as it's longer than the previous GPUs that you had which is the main issue. Did you have the GPU pressed...

    DNS benchmark app

Hi all Don't know which DNS server to use? Try using DNS Benchmark. It has very early 2000's vibes for the UI and you could do the same with a script if you wanted to but it's handy to know which DNS servers work the best. For me, it's 1.1.1.1 or 208.67.222.220. Regards

Thanks for the suggestion, it's also a contender. I'm going to investigate it too. My friend in Aus told me to do the Trail badges over on Salesforce and I didn't fully understand it but now I think I do.

Hi all I'm looking to create a dedicated site on a server that makes use of raw input figures from an analyst and then automatically creates a performance and stats PDF at the end of the week (or whenever) and emails the summary to a set contact list. I'm currently looking at using Power...

    Wootware GPU Replacement advice

You're mixing up board partner design being shit versus the AMD brand and the fact that Wootware is offering you store credit should be applauded. I dare you to buy from Evetech and get anything other than the middle finger. Wootware is great. I've owned enough XFX GPUs (6800XT, 6600GT and a...

Seeking Advice on Importing a Pixel 6 Battery Replacement Kit to South Africa

Have a look at shipping batteries from the UK to ZA. If possible, I could courier one to you when I get back to the UK at the end of March. Pretty sure it won't be possible though and you're best option is to buy the kit that Myphone is selling. Might cost a little bit more but it's here...

Will 4 ram sticks run at a slower speed

Your motherboard will indicate what speeds it can run with 4 DIMMs and which RAM is confirmed to work at certain capacities and speeds. You've decided to go 2 by 32gig DIMMs which is much better for compatibility so that's a good choice. Don't go 4 DIMMS unless you're using a known tested config.

am5 motherboard for my Ryzen 7800X3D

Are you referring to the voltage issues with Asus board? As far as I know, that issue has been solved with newer BIOS versions. Advice on learning to code , what languages to start with and best way to go about it

My god yes, the lack of documentation and the terrible UI where you have to know codes to get to the sections of the system to view certain information is so poor. SSD advice

Larger SSDs are often faster and with better endurance. Also, consider the cost per gig - I find that 1tb drives have the lowest cost per gig, even compared to smaller capacity drives. I had a prejudice against the WD Green drives from back in the day before SSDs were a thing as they were...
