What is your budget?
More than 8 cores usually hurts gaming performance as the CPU will have more than 2 CCDs.
5800X3D would be a cheaper upgrade path but AM4 is (sort of) a dead end platform.
A good deal on an AM5 would have a better upgrade path but it will be more expensive.
I would...
Use Testmem5 with the ANTA777 extreme config to test the memory for 2 passes.
Remove one of the DIMMS and try that.
Update your BIOS.
Could be a faulty RAM chiplet that's within the first 16gigs of RAM so when it starts to fill up, you get issues.
R2500 for fibre isn’t bad but CAT6 is better value.
I do love fibre. It’s fundamentally a top rate technology - Wi-Fi on the other hand is a pain in the arse.
Wellll yessss, sure. CAT6 would be required.
Fibre is amazing but can be expensive.
Out of interest, Can you price 20m of fibre with connectors and networking equipment?
Just run an outdoor rated Ethernet cable like the sheep said
Wi-Fi is poor for long distances.
Get a cable that’s reinforced, some passthrough RJ45 connectors and a crimper.
Net result, 10gbs connection without the wifi dropouts from interference.
You could try a Ethernet over power...
No, you don't need a thermal pad for an SSD, especially that one.
People freak out about heat and an SSD but unless you're hammering the SSD with regular small I/O requests, it won't make a difference.
The only situation where you may see a small temperature increase is when you're...
This was when I still lived in South Africa so it's a few years ago now but I'll dig up the details of the broker.
I'm sure that pricing has increased a lot.
I said I damaged it accidentally if that’s helpful.
They were only annoyed that I was under insured and I had to up my household cover from R200 000 to R750 000 (ish) if I recall correctly as the GPU was expensive to replace.
I’d been with them a while and they didn’t ask too many questions...
Glad someone on here knows how to do a proper repaste.
Shout out to me for doing a Liquid Metal repaste of my 980 ti back in 2017 and getting Liquid Metal all over the PCB which killed the card.
Shout out to the member on here who knew how to clean it and took the GPU off my hands for R250...
Hi all
My mom needs to return her really old router to WebAfrca which was a loan unit and we are now moving to Afrihost. I cannot find said router which is specifically a Huawei WS319 Router model.
I have an old Netgear model that will work but isn't ideal as Webafrica can be massive ducks...
Why do you want a gaming laptop? Do you make heavy use of CUDA cores for work purposes?
I can assure you that a gaming laptop will have a ton of heat and the battery won't last very long with next to zero resale value but if you just need the raw horsepower and you go in with the understanding...
Power BI appears to be the winner here.
I was looking at Heroku but that's very much a raw coder wet dream and Power BI is more semi-tech end-user friendly.
This is the same GPU as OP and I just looked at a review:
OP, what chassis do you have?
I'm getting the hunch that you were restricting the airflow in your chassis too much with the GPU as it's longer than the previous GPUs that you had which is the main issue.
Did you have the GPU pressed...
Hi all
Don't know which DNS server to use? Try using DNS Benchmark.
It has very early 2000's vibes for the UI and you could do the same with a script if you wanted to but it's handy to know which DNS servers work the best.
For me, it's 1.1.1.1 or 208.67.222.220.
Regards
Thanks for the suggestion, it's also a contender. I'm going to investigate it too.
My friend in Aus told me to do the Trail badges over on Salesforce and I didn't fully understand it but now I think I do.
Hi all
I'm looking to create a dedicated site on a server that makes use of raw input figures from an analyst and then automatically creates a performance and stats PDF at the end of the week (or whenever) and emails the summary to a set contact list.
I'm currently looking at using Power...
You're mixing up board partner design being shit versus the AMD brand and the fact that Wootware is offering you store credit should be applauded.
I dare you to buy from Evetech and get anything other than the middle finger. Wootware is great.
I've owned enough XFX GPUs (6800XT, 6600GT and a...
Have a look at shipping batteries from the UK to ZA. If possible, I could courier one to you when I get back to the UK at the end of March.
Pretty sure it won't be possible though and you're best option is to buy the kit that Myphone is selling. Might cost a little bit more but it's here...
Your motherboard will indicate what speeds it can run with 4 DIMMs and which RAM is confirmed to work at certain capacities and speeds.
You've decided to go 2 by 32gig DIMMs which is much better for compatibility so that's a good choice. Don't go 4 DIMMS unless you're using a known tested config.
Hi all
Did anyone else have any DNS issues yesterday? It was in the evening at about 8pm.
I cycled through several DNS servers (9.9.9.9, 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1) and it ended up being OK but I'm wondering if it wasn't my wifi network.
Thanks
I've found this website but I have no idea how legit they are. https://www.desertcart.co.za/brand/joying
They sell Joying which is well known to offer universal smart head units that are of fairly good to very good quality (I'm sure that they have some really poor quality base units though)...
Are you referring to the voltage issues with Asus board? As far as I know, that issue has been solved with newer BIOS versions.
Why don't you consider a cheaper board and a PCI-e M.2 expander card? They are cheap and can hold a few drives. The only time that they are an issue is if you want ITX...
Why not use a 12v cig socket to power your phone?
Edit: I see it already uses the 21v cig socket for power so unless you can return power back to your phone or splice the power lead and add a USB Type-C cable for your phone, that's a pain.
Edit edit: the unit has a 2.1amp 5v and a 5v type C...
I would still pay for the certificate. It's a noddy badge since you've already completed the course but companies love noddy badges so they can say why you're qualified for the position. It's also only $219 which for a course is insanely cheap.
Edit: they have a course in AI and machine...
Been looking to upgrade my 2018 VW up headunit to a full Android Auto/Apple Car Play unit with a 7" display.
The issue is that I can do it and it does work but theft might be an issue and that's in the UK.
In ZA, you might as well just not do it unless you can hide the unit (in the glove box...
My god yes, the lack of documentation and the terrible UI where you have to know codes to get to the sections of the system to view certain information is so poor.
When I worked for a bank, I suggested that they create a brand new system that is modular and can be upgraded without impacting the...
Weird. Maybe OP found the solution and is now a millionaire?
I’m relearning software development for my masters and as was said above, it’s all largely the same logic and instruction set just with a different syntax.
I did Turbo Pascal in highschool and they wanted me to drop to standard grade...
Larger SSDs are often faster and with better endurance.
Also, consider the cost per gig - I find that 1tb drives have the lowest cost per gig, even compared to smaller capacity drives.
I had a prejudice against the WD Green drives from back in the day before SSDs were a thing as they were...
You’re welcome.
I just want you to make sure before you start replacing components and end up wasting your money.
If it is the RAM then that’s fair enough but let’s make sure first.
Most likely is not the same as confirmed.
Here's the download for Testmem 5.
You'll see it starts testing upon opening the app, you need to load the ANTA 777 extreme test config and then reopen the app.
Let it run until either you get an error or it's gone through several passes without any...
Are you sure it’s your memory?
Run Testmem 5 using the ANTA 777 extreme config for 2 passes and see if that results in any errors first before you start replacing your RAM.
You might find out that it’s your GPU or motherboard or just a bad driver.
Post your full pc spec here
Try overclock your current RAM and rather get a better monitor.
Spending money on faster RAM will make a difference but not subjecting your eyes to 60hz is a better use of your money.
If you wanted to get a 3080, I’d suggest a better PSU is all. 650 watts is cutting it very close.
If you wanted to get a 3080, I’d suggest a better PSU is all. 6500 watts is cutting it very close.
CPU is fine, not great but fine.
One thing you can do to alleviate a CPU bottleneck is move to...
You have to use very specific thermal pads for a GPU or it won’t make good contact.
You could try adding a small amount of thermal paste to the existing thermal pads to improve their conductivity.
I had an X570 Tomahawk and hated it.
Sold it and got a B550i Strix ITX motherboard.
I have some regrets over getting an ITX build because it’s a pain to do maintenance on and was expensive but I still like it as a PC.
My next build will be a mATX setup so I can add a pci-e LAN card and...
