Bikers!?

Ok so my order with Revzilla has been placed at last. I ended up having to go for the Bell MX-9 Adventure Snow, so I lose out on MIPS but score a breath box and their snow visor which is basically pinlock on steroids; a double layer shield with a near vacuum between the layers. No fogging ever!

Aside from that it's the same helmet with the same safety ratings etc. I might just buy a normal smoked visor for summer riding when that happens.

Turns out there is no stock of the Adventure MIPS model anywhere, even at supplier level, unless you;re an extra small or XXL.

I also ended up choosing to go high-viz but a slightly sexier high-viz than just the usual flat yellow.

Price?
I am also looking to get the same helmet but the red and black.

Locally the Bell MX-9 Adventure MIPS is around R4300. There's an "RSD" version (Roland Sands Design) that comes with a tinted visor and might cost you an extra R200.
The Snow version on the helmet that I'm getting isn't available in this country for obvious reasons. I'm getting my Snow edition for $220 courtesy of my in-laws who are in the States at the moment.

AFAIK this is the only red & black design currently available:

There are others but they are outdated designs and so will be hard to find.

Yellow def the right choice!!!!

Yellow def the right choice!!!!

Woohoo! Validation

I wanted something a lot more visible than my current matte black. A white design was my first choice but no stock so yellow was next. I couldn't bring myself to buy the all plain yellow thing. That was just too much for me :geek: I think this snow design is sexy AF so, yeah, win!

The only validation that matters is my validation :p

That's the one, It's very noice.

about R7k for the 15000 KM service. and about R15k for the 30000km service. But compare that my Honda CB1000R which is every 10 000km for normal and 20 000km major. 30 000km in costed me R16k.... soo yea.. it is quite a bit more expensive but then again. 15000km service intervals. More than any bike I have seen so far.

Anyone looking for a Good Second Hand KTM 1290R Superduke. with only 5500km's on it, lots of extras. 2017 Registered.

Well apparently the 30 000km service for the GS is also expensive, maybe

lol xD

But you love the bike I'm sure.

Not R15000.

My most expensive service ever on my K1300GT was R5500, and that was diff oil, oil, brake fluid (front and back), clutch fluid, radiator fluid, valve clearance on 16 valves, spark plugs and air filter. And i had that bike from 30000km untill 90000km's.

Man my dad bought a Gearbox for R12k, and KTM wants to ask R15k for a 30000km service, I om going to KTM Saturday and I want a Quote on that. I want evidence.

My GS 30000km service was R2500(and that includes a air filter cause mine was dirty). 40k service is about R4500, with valve clearance, spark plugs and the works.

Not R15k, Ducati is not even that crazy to ask for a service.

GG ez money... I have yet to find a 100% trustworthy stealership.
My boss had his GS800 'serviced' for 8k+, granted it including chain and sprockets, but at his next service they told him it needs to be replaced again ( only lasted 10 000 km )
Dealerships likes to use the valve clearance service as an excuse to ram the cactus right up there. sideways. At least my local Honda lead mechanic had the decency to tell me not to bother with it before 35/40k as he knows they generally won't need adjustment before then.

R8k for a service might be a big one as you say and then the chain and sprockets put it over the top.
I will change my own chains and sprockets, thank you very much. BTW, that is the Reason for the GS as a commuting bike, Chains on Dirt don't last. If you do not maintain them, they do not last. Shafts are just beter for poeple riding a lot.

My wife took the car in for a service. My wife phoned me and asked if they should replace the brake pads because the front are almost finished. I advised that they leave it, I will get the pads myself and do it. Got the pads, Pulled the wheels off and the pads still had half of their life left. Luckily I actually know about these things otherwise I would have been screwed out of a lot more money.

I got R15k as a estimate from Raceworx

Those estimates are always high. They're just including everything like brake pads, hydraulic flush, coolant flush, chain & sprockets etc that might need doing.

R15k must have the following aswell, fork seals, fork fluid, rear shock recon, sprockets, chains, lamps front and rear, gold lining in the tank, and tyres front and rear, brake pads front and rear, clutch plates.

I can see R15k with that included. And then R 30k at 30k, what the hell do they add after that, i am selling this bike right f***ing now if this is true.

I had my Rear shock Recon done at BMW Bavarian and that was R 2.5k, labour included. So I still dont get R15k.

F*** this estimate, they have computers, KTM tells them replace XYZ @ 15k and 30k and add Labour, and I want THAT quote.
If BMW and Ducati can, then KTM can aswell.
They can do it and i know they can give me one. I will report back on Sunday.

The 1st service on the Duke was R1800 for an run in service, I dont see R15k at 15000km from there.

Jeepers dude, triggered much?

A basic service on my 990 was R5k just for the basics. If you include labor you can add R2k for front brake pads all round, R4500 for chain & sprockets, R1500 for a coolant & hydraulic flush, R1000 for valve clearances...that's R14k already.

Raceworx protects themselves by quoting on everything. What people don't seem to understand is a service is very rarely just a service. Yes, the manual tells you to replace a specific list of parts at each service, but wear & tear items like sprockets and brake pads are not specified; they should just be checked and replaced when necessary.

You can't ever say that a service costs a specific amount. I'd rather get a worst case scenario quote with detailed items than just get a quote for the basics and get a fright when I need to cough up an extra R4k for chain & sprockets.

Chain, sprockets, brake pads, spark plugs, oil, all those you can do yourself, Heck just service the thing yourself. Send it in for valve clearance around 30k km

Yeah that's an entirely different debate. If you have a brand new bike under a warranty that you want to keep, you don't really have much choice in who services it.

My run in service was just over R2k
I'll be awaiting your response

Then you can call me cheap, and i'll go back to BMW. That Costs 25k to replace the shaft if it breaks after 100000km's, cheaper than replacing Chains and sprockets @ R 4500 a set after 15000km's
That is a bit excessive.

And I have had bikes in the Past that did easily 50000km on a set.

I can see my SD do 30 000km on a set, if a maintain it well, even with the track days in mind.

Extra.
I see a service as Oil, Fluids Spark plugs, valve clearence, Air filter etc as a service.

Brake pads, Tyres, chain and sprockets are consumables - as they last as long as you "use" them. No issue to replace them with a service. i do them myself as needed.

Well as everyone say. With a KTM you need ATM bud.

1st Bike: Yamaha 175 Enduro.
Current bike: Buell XB9S, most fun bike I've ever had to ride.
To choose one from many that I'd like: Yamaha V-Max.

Ok Done some research at KTM. The prices are not fixed but an indication. Still alot less than Ducati and the R15k and R30k mentioned.
The mechanic mentioned the chain and spocket do get replaced @ 30k and will make the service about R12k if you add that and brake pads, front and rear.

Still more expensive than my BMW though to run. But releaved to say the least.

Twas another awesome day at the track. Can feel I need some tweaking on the bike, but will do that once I fit a new rear tyre!
