First bike: GoMoto 200 Beyond
Current bike: KTM 390 Duke 2016
Next Bike: Daytona 675R
Dreambike: Don't know. I've not seen something yet that makes me smile every time I see it. however the S1000RR does get pretty close.

@antybubbs Looks awesome - I'm probably going for the SC project all black on mine.
I've been waiting 3 months for yamaha on my tech black mt09.

I see you've kept the swing arm - I also don't mind it, the tail looks good imho as is.

What screen have you got on there?

Can anyone here recommend a good place where I can get brake pads for a KTM SMC 690, that doesn't involve a stealership?

Oh right, anywhere near joburg pretty much, haven't had a look at ktm yet, want to shop around a bit first.

Location would help...

KTM is pretty cheap for parts though aren't they?

Yeah - rear number plate setup was ok with me until my number plate recently fell off going through hekpoort, I think that road is just crap. That’s my only issue - that whole unit at the back feels the road.

I have the Mt09 screen, it really does sweet bugger all but it looks nice....

Howzit dude, I bought SBS front pads for my 2015 S1000XR for R790 from Contact WeSellParts.co.za | WeSellParts.co.za auto and motorcycle parts online They're a brick & mortar store. I fitted them to the bike when I got home. These pads work like a bomb. BMW quoted me R2350 just for the pads.

Raceworx used to be good, but they change staff like a ho changes her undergarments. Try RAD rather.

Not sure if I'm allowed to share this here but I hope admins allow it.

BMWFanatics is hosting a track day at Redstar Raceway on Sat the 14th July 2018. There is a bikers class as well of which entry is R450.

To register you can email Bmwfanaticsza@gmail or PM me.

Raceworx are thieves, Pissed me off to hell and gone.
The salesman was good, kept me clued up with whats going on, gave me a deal on it and all. The first service however.... Charged me R120 and half a hour of labour to "wash" my bike. No seriously, I had to pay R400+ to get my bike washed... and it wasn't washed properly either. When I complained and said WTF they just looked at me like I was some martian from outer space. Total cost was R2.5k where they originally told me it was going to cost roughly R1.5k+-
I won't go to them again.

RAD is just as bad in other ways, I took my previous bike to them to see what they would give me for as a trade in. I had just spent R20k on it getting the forks serviced and major service, new tyres etc etc. they offered me R19k for trade in on a bike which the book value was close to R90k. They came up with excuses saying they have to do a major service and replace almost everything. I absolutely won't go to RAD. but that's my personal experience.

It's unfortunate because of the distance but I will take my bike to KTM Pretoria for what ever it needs next, I have phoned them after my whole ordeal with raceworx and they have been soo much more helpful. They offered to pick my bike up for free as long as I come to pick it up when it's done etc etc. When the time comes... Service is at 15k.
Took it in for a noise and they quickly sorted it out free of charge.

R1.5K for a set of front pads for my KTM, I dunno if that's cheap for what it is but it definitely costs more than any of my previous bikes pads.

Sounds about right for Brembos and I doubt you’ll get them significantly cheaper elsewhere.

Fitting anything less will significantly hamper braking.

By all means I will buy them. I sort of expected them to be around that price. But the brake dust I'm getting is insane. My orange wheels are now brown after a week of riding.

My Brother has issues with KTM SA constantly with his motard. Getting parts and advice seems like a nightmare and stories differ from shop to shop, even from person to person within the same shop!

It definitely differs.
KTM may be a bit more problematic than most other brands but my mother has experienced really crappy service with Yamaha SA for the past 2 or 3 years with her Super Ten.
On the flip side I know a guy riding a 1190 Super adventure and a different guy riding a 690 motard that are happy and have never had a issue with KTM,Raceworx and RAD ever. Just like I never had a issue ever with Honda, though a friend who has a CBR1000R has his bike in the shop every few months because of some issue that they didn't fix properly in the first place.

My mothers previously deceased boyfriend rode a R1100GS and never had a issue with the dealers or the bike. He was in a accident and replaced his bike with a R1150R and it gave problems constantly and the BMW workshop refused to acknowledge any problems.

Soo different experiences all around.

PS. You still have not indicated what the possible new toy is, Or maybe I missed the thread?

True that!
Just a newer motard :p

But will they last as long?

The BMW pads seem to last forever so while they might seem expensive you might find that for the total mileage covered they balance out just the same.

R2350 does seem a bit on the crazy side. They are $110 odd from BMW directly and about 75pounds from Brembo.

I got 21k km outta the originals. If I get half that, I'll be happy.

They are the performance pads, so longevity is impacted but I hoon so I prefer it this way.

My father-in-law needed the manual for his Duke but the KTM dealer in PE said they would have to see if they could find it for him as it's very difficult to find the manuals, they have still not contacted him back after 4 weeks.
I found the service manual on the KTM website in 5 minutes and gave it to him.

Strange. At 27k now on the same OEM pads (as far as I can google) and they sill look brand new.

Most my previous bikes changed pads between 16k-20k.

You're on the GS LC? Our bikes take the same pads, but they're probably ridden very differently...

R1200RS so they aren’t ridden that differently.

Actually was fully intent on buying an XR but couldn’t handle the cable clutch and revvy motor. Fell in love with the RS instead.

But I’ll make a plan to check my pads this weekend to be sure as I don’t want a big surprise at my 30k service.

Mine needs to be replaced, Bike has 32000k on them, however not 100% sure if it was the original pads since i dint have the Bike since brand new, but confident they are.
