Hi, I have the following issue:

I have an Benq XL2730Z monitor and it is currently paired with an RX 580 4GB card.

I like the high frame rates but the RX 580 does not have enough power to get that frames.

I evaluated my options and determined that I would I have to get a 1070, 1070ti, 1080 or Vega 56.

The problem is I only have a budget for around 8k and I do not know if Nvidia will be releasing new graphics cards.

Does freesync really matter? And will the 1070 suffice?

I have a 1080 and just got a 1440P monitor and I gave up quite a lot of performance. I still find it acceptable but I think most would want to pull some sliders back a bit rather. And if you want to do that on a 1080 then lower likely won't cut it unless you're very happy to revert to medium settings.

The problem with Freesync is that it depends heavily on the monitor. Some have absolutely stupid Freesync windows at FPS where you barely get any benefit from the technology. If however you are looking at lower performance then having a monitor with a Freesync window that extends fairly would be highly beneficial. Though obviously none of that is a concern if you go freen team.

1440p @144hz with 1070 worked for me on medium/optimum settings. Lots of the times you cant even tell the difference between a high and medium setting.

With your budget you can easily get a 1080 now which will be better for some more GPU demanding games

I get about 90 FPS with High settings on PUBG with a 1070 on 1440P

CSGO you will have no problems but newer games, like kingdom come, dip to about 60fps sometimes.

I haven't fiddled at all with overclocking or anything but I would say that if you are a stickler for 144fps at high quality you are going to have to get something better than a 1070.

G sync really makes a difference in my opinion, especially if your frame rate starts dropping below 60.

Just like the others mentioned a GTX 1070 will be good enough for depending on the game, CS:GO, Fortinte, Overwatch will have no problem. AAA titles wont reach that necessarily.
With the budget of around R8k the 1070 is the only card you will get new.
But I would say wait for the new GTX 11 or 2000 series to come out. Should be announced at Computex next week (so far only rumors though). Will possibly be a bit more than R8K, but gives some time to save up.

Aww thanks guys!

Look I don’t mind moving from high to medium, as long as the frames are there!

I like dota and CS and also assassins and far cry and so on!

So all would suggest moving from the benq to an asus monitor with gsync and then picking up later a Nvidia gpu?

What frustrates me the most is the red team like I really thought they would back hard with vega, but they just aren’t a match for the green team!!! Even I that have an all out red team setup is considering going green!

Get a 1080 or 1070 and be done with it if you've got the cash. Pretty surprised a 580 doesn't give you what you want though.

Have you tried the Enhanced Sync option in AMD Settings (Gaming Global Settings)? Turn off VSync in all your games and turn on Enhanced Sync. I would be interested in hearing the results.

Cheers :)

1070ti is much cheaper than 1080 here on carb, and when overclocked, it meets the performance of a 1080

No I am happy with dota and cs:go! But like in assassins I had to drop down to 1080p on medium settings just to get nice above 60fps. Especially in the cities!

No I have not tried that! I will test it and let you know how the results look! Thank you for the tips![emoji16]

Just keep in mind that you need the latest 18.x.x Adrenaline drivers for Enhanced Sync. 17.x.x does not have the feature.

Cheers :)
