Hey peeps,

I've signed up with Home-Connect ISP running on Metro Fibre's network.
Currently getting 250ms to any blizzard gaming server. Cant play overwatch with this sort of ping...
It should be about 170-180ms.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue on Metro Fibre with Home-Connect?

Already done the basic troubleshooting in my apartment.
RTT remains fine for every hop until it hits one of blizzard's nodes.

Just want to know if anyone is battling with the same issue, because I'm stuck in a game with Blizzard and my ISP called "let's point some fingers".

Input would be much appreciated.

I just moved to home connect and my ping on Diablo 3 went from 180ms to 240-250+ . I'm so upset about this I'm going to move back to my previous provider. You still getting bad ping?

Ye dude! Still got this terrible response time.
Doesn't help speaking to either parties. They just point fingers at each other.

What provider you going to move to?

So I was with CellC using their fiber 50/50 and the ping on D3 was 180-190ms.

I saw with home connect I could get 100/100 for the same price so I moved. Big mistake. So when I'm back at work on Tuesday I'm going to move back to CellC. They may be more expensive but the ping is very good to Europe.

Sigh. I wish I'd just left it there and not been so greedy. Haha

Yea sorry to hear. To be frank, this only happened like a month ago. I've been on home-connect before and never experienced this. Knowing the slack nature of ISP's here, they would be not be willing to go down the peering chain to resolve bad routing just for our "slightly" increased latency. They even told me that this is expected response time for EU servers. What a laugh.

Maybe I'll try CellC too. How are they with shaping/fair play? You experienced any of that with them?

So I was with them for about a year and a half and didn't experience any shaping or anything like that and the ping for Blizzard games was fantastic.

I've sent home connect an email today telling them their routing is not configured correctly and I am going to move back to CellC as soon as possible.

I've also experienced this problem on Home-Connect, luckily I don';t play much overwatch anymore... I got better ping on my mates 50/50 from WebAfrica or something like that

Ah I see. Wonder how many users it will take for them to resolve this. I'll have a look at webafrica. Thanks mate

I'll double check that is infact web africa, I asked my mate now, but all I remember is they got fibre before me, that is when I was heavy into OW and played at them gang, then I get my internet, slap into OW and get PK'd with disappointment. I'm going to launch OW because I'm curious now xD

Haha let me know how it goes then :p

The menu even feels laggy :/ One of the weirdest things is that the menu background doesn't load immediately, that is something I never used to experience and it happens basically every time now xD

When you say laggy, are you referring referring to them capping the background to 60 fps. I'm assuming you're running a high hz monitor?
What does your in game response time look like?

A lovely 265 ping :) constant :/

Yeah I noticed it was capped, but just the general use of the menu, it feels like the lag in-game is in menu as well, yeah I'm running 144hz but I leave it at 120hz. My mouse scrolling over things and clicking into the next menu just feels delayed, everything is delayed xD

I am on not on fibre due to telkoms lack of ability to provide it in my area, but i also noticed the menu lag as you have mentioned...i put that down to having it running of a 5400rpm HDD instead of a 7200rpm or SSD. Have also had the occasional menu lag as you mentioned as well...not sure what causes that.

I dont know if its just telkom, but lately, my ping is also all over the place. I actually get better connection from using Vodacom 4G connection via LAN. I am suspecting with the patches coming through, there seems to be some changes to their netcode that could be impacting our pings? initially when it started off, I used to get around 190ms on a 2mb ADSL line...now if i am lucky, i get under 215ms.

BTW, maybe you guys know this already, but when you are in a game or even the training range, press CTRL+SHIFT+N to bring up the network statistics...it shows you which server you are connected to with the IP address and a whole lot of live graphs/stats.

Interesting.

I'm on home connect and Vumatel. I get 150-170MS in D3.
The only game I have problems with is POE which goes to 250 but only in certain areas or maps. otherwise 150-170MS. Iv'e got 100/100 and if anything happens I phone Home connect and they sort it out in 10-20 minutes.

Hmm that might be some useful information right there. It might be that packets coming back from EU are hitting some routing issues on Metro Fibre's network.

@D3TTOL May I kindly ask if you can send me the results of a traceroute to 185.60.112.157 (one of blizzards servers).
I want to forward this to Home-connect and show them that this might indicate and issue with MFN.

I've been having problems with HomeConnect as well now. Sigh, they were soo good when I started with them. My international latency is hitting 300 now.
Any good ISPs that I can jump to? Wirulink? Rocketnet? Crystal web?

Anyone else on Home-Connect (Vumatel) that can give me some traceroutes?

Unfortunately Home Connect is useless now. I always recommended them.
My latency is climbing high now with them and I get "cant connect to site" errors all the time now.

I sent a support ticket and their response was "Please note that we do not have severs outside the country and therefore do not guarantee international speeds"
... Unless I am mistaken I am sure most if not all the ISPs in South Africa don't have servers outside the country.

I told them to either fix it, if they cant then they must admit they cant and I will move ISPs.

Hey @D3TTOL

They are just spewing some shit because they think we are stupid. They are supposed to relay this down the peering chain as this is clearly a bad routing or QoS issue. I've pointed out all the facts so they have no excuse.
They will eventually have to fix this is I've tested numerous ISP's that do not experience this issue. Their loss though, as they will lose many...many customers.

I'm going to go for Rocketnet by the way. I've phoned their support guys and had them ping test to blizzard servers. They are getting 170ms which is excellent.

i noticed recently with the Vodacom and MTN connections, the ping has worsened as well...its now sitting at around 230ms....compared to initially starting off at 189 or so and then sticking to around 200. i noticed as well, it may be related to the patches...not sure, other games pings (like ironsight) etc seem to be better than what i am getting on overwatch...i dont put much reliance on my ADSL connection (fibre not available in my area) as telkom sucks in providing a stable connection even though its only a 2mb line.

Really? I will then go for them as well. My choice is between Wirulink and Rocketnet.
I will probably only get a response on monday from Wirulink but they are doing a speedtest and will give me the results. Rocketnet hasn't contacted me yet.

It's definitely not Vumatel as I have multiple friends on Vuma using different ISPs and they are all getting 170ms+-

Update from my side.
I'm currently on Rocketnet now. Getting 200-210ms, where I was previously getting like 170-180ms on Home-Connect before the issue. Their latency is better, but still shitty latency for a fibre connection, not to mention I've been having intermittent disconnections since I joined. Their streaming isn't too fresh either.
I phoned Home-Connect to see if its back to normal again. They at least told me that they are well aware of the issue and that they're working hard to resolve this as its affecting all their clients that are blizzard gamers. I'll be phoning them again in a month or so to follow up.
I would really like to use them again since they actually have good internet services (good streaming, browsing, rarely any downtime).

Hey Guys,

Anyone still on Home-connect (with Metro fibre) that can ping/MTR 185.60.112.157 and share the results?
Apparently they fixed the issue, and I'm really keen on moving back to Home-connect if they did.

I'm with Vox and play heroes of the storm, my ping usually sits at a stable 176. Maybe give them a go? 100/50 openserve line

Problem is that Vox want to charge me a whopping R1500 for the transfer, wheres any other competitor charge at most R500.

Played a game or two last night and first time on my fibre that I have had a stable 200 ping, not the 175 but way better than 250-400 that it has been at, it is once again playable at least :)
