So this week I said goodbye to my KTM 1290R superduke. I feel that the type of road riding I have been doing, and looking at doing does not suit the machine anymore. Also given South African roads are just kak in general these days, change was needed.
I had looked into a few options, and for me personally, I wanted to get something great on road, something I could dabble with in the dirt a litte, something I have never done, and something comfortable.
My options were along the lines of the Ducati Multistrada, KTM 1290 Adventure, Triumph tiger 900, and of course the GS.
One of the main factors for me, was should I decide to go into the bundus, or a town that is not home, and the bike goes caput, I would like to have a decent support network, and parts availability.
The last point alone drove me to test the new 1250 GS, and boy was I impressed.
SO, from owning 2 ducatis, to a ducati and a ktm, to a BMW and a KTM, I now have gone fully native to my ancestral routes, and ended up taking delivery of my 2021 GS 1250 R in triple black.
I leave the floor open for GS and GS rider jokes. @PandaAttack1 has already been dishing out the lashes.

Welcome to the BMW club, excellent choice of the iconic boxer engine.

A Triple Black nogals ook, super sexy.

Safe, happy miles and enjoy the ride.

next upgrade, Akro pipe

...only because you said we could, even if I have no place to diss on motorbikes.

Imagine buying a GS right when the Ducati Desert X is released :ROFLMAO:
I'm sorry, but that thing looks fucken awful.
I'd rather buy the davidson pan america than the desert x

I guess I will have to share my recent penis shrinking decisions here as well at some point...

Congrats on the big tank dude.

Since it's post your new bike day:
For many of the same reasons Ryno got his GS, I decided to 'upgrade' my multi Enduro to a V4 multi.

My first brand new road bike!

*I had to sell the S1000R to afford this boi. My penis is now of average length.

Still freaking sexy though, makes me feel like I need a new bike. Have owned the MT10 for quite a while now....

Got my shock back from MP Suspension after a much-needed service. Didn't even realise it works with nitrogen as well. Looking forward to seeing how the bike actually should feel when you go off-road.

Imagine having to do a warranty claim on your desert x half way up the sani pass...you have fun sunshine, I had my warranty claim stint with that brand:poop:

Whats the GS like ?
I know the numbers normally speak for themselves.
But is it that good that it warrants the loyal following ?

Thing with the GS, its been a thing for 40 years, the boxer for 90.
I think we are very close to the end of the boxer engine era, as BMW have squeezed everything they can out of it.
I wanted to own one before that happens.
The 1250 is has a GORGEOUS amount of torque, and the bike is fast, for its weight and size.
400km in on the bike in the last day or so and I love it, took the mrs for a spin today, and even 1 up the bike is a glider, nimble, and still fast as F.....
The thing handles like any superbike or naked in traffic.
My only downside so far, the shift from first to second will induce concussion with the quick shifter.
As I said to @PandaAttack1 today, for the type of road riding I do, and for our roads, I think you will be hard pressed to find a better alternative.
Everyone is losing their minds about this new desert x, and the triumph 1200, but, with the triumph, you basically have to buy 2 bikes to do what 1 GS does.
The ducati is gona be riddled with recalls and teething issues, as we have seen with all their bikes in the past, Multi V4's included.
What got me to BMW is the 5 year warranty, the support network with MASSIVE amounts of dealers around SA, the fact that spares are actually IN country and the availability of after market bits.
I rode it off the showroom floor yesterday, straight to GPS4AFRICA, (amazing people and shop by the way) and got the top box, crash bars, and head covers fitted in a hour.
So as is much the case with my track RR, the bits availability is a massive win.
GS is not everyone's flavor or speed, but given I have a RR, I like the idea of sticking with the same brand, same service staff and same systems. I like the TFT dash and software, because I can go from RR to GS, and my TC and riding mode switch gear, and operations are exactly the same.

I didn't know they sold bikes with just a base coat on. What colour are you going to paint it?

Otherwise, stunning machinery man. Have you booked it in for repairs yet?
Shut your mouth! that's nardo gray! looks good on anything!

Gents, I know it's been asked before but I'm looking for current advice.

I have a WR250Z which is in pieces - just about a complete build from frame up.

Are there any local bike forums which are active, which may be useful in terms of advice, potential spares, etc?

Dude, I wish. There's hardly any active car forums left. Your best bet would probably be facebook groups.

Bleh, FB Groups are the death knell of a hobby.

Maybe I should try find something international, at least for advice and such. Maybe Reddit is the place?
