My current PSU is an Antec True Power Classic 750W non-modular, which has worked really well for me even with my new GPU.
I'm thinking of getting a fully-modular PSU to replace it, and possibly push up to an 850W one, but not really sure what good PSU's are out there. I don't want one of those explody Gigabyte ones though :D

My current PC specs are:

- Ryzen 5 3600X
- Coolermaster 240mm CPU AIO
- 2x 8GB G.Skill 3600Mhz CL16
- Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Plus Wifi
- Samsung 960 EVO 256GB NVMe
- 2x 1TB SSD
- 2x 4TB HDD
- 6x ARGB 120mm fans
- Palit 3080 Ti Gamerock OC

I think my at the wall power draw is around 650W, but have not tested.

So what's out there that is decent (80 Plus Gold) that won't break the bank, or my PC...like those Explody Gigabyte ones.

Also, what could I expect to sell my existing PSU for?

Make sure to check any recommendations against what the tier list has to say

Don't overcompensate wattage (1000w psu for a 400w peak draw system)
Get gold/platinum
don't get a shit brand xD

+1 for that Superflower ^
Great value and good quality. Don't cheap out saving R500 to power your R24,000 GPU.

Definitely not cheaping out.
Only willing to look at at least 80 Plus Gold with enough juice, 750W minimum, multi rail if possible.
But I don't want to be over-spending on too much PSU for my needs or just to pay for the name.
I'm quite happy to spend R2.5k, even willing to push to R3k if I have to, but if I don't have to I won't.

Are these Super Flower PSUs really that good? Never heard of them before, as I've mostly just stuck with the likes of Antec and Seasonic.

If you google "LTT PSU tier list" you should get a pretty complete list of psu rankings. From what I've seen while looking for a modular upgrade the superflower brand is difficult to beat. I also want to say a gamedias one surprised me with how high up it was.

From your spec list id say an 800w should be good. Maybe look at 1000w if you wanna go up to an 16 core cpu in the future but even then 800 should handle it fine.

Superflower is really good. AFAIK all their current PSUs are good, whereas the likes of EVGA and Corsair make some great ones and some crud ones.

Also, don't place too much faith in an 80+ rating. All that tells you is the efficiency of the PSU. That explody Gigabyte one is 80+ Gold...

I am a fan of these, does great on reviews, and 10 year warranty.

Either should do, just make sure how much you draw from the wall.
But superflower is sweet as well!! but only 5 year warranty.

Some brands are made by other manufacturers, the Corsair RM if I'm not mistaken is made by Seasonic which is probably the best manufacturer of psu's. As others have stated, the Superflower models are excellent value for money as well with great ratings.

Your current PSU is fine - go buy an AMD 5600X.

Why would you replace a perfectly good PSU for something that is a bit better but you are out of pocket R2500?

He wants modular cables, each to their own 🤷‍♂️

I love it when people argue on my behalf.
I also love when people tell me how to spend my own money.

I don't necessarily want modular, but if I'm upgrading, I'll get modular.

However,
GPU can draw 440W (uses 3x 8 pin PCI-E connectors).
PCI-E 12V rail in PSU has MAX output of 420W.
Assuming PCI-E slot supplies 75W (65W more likely) from the other rail, that means GPU is pulling up to 365W (375W) from the PSU.
365W is 86.9% (375W is 89.2%) of the MAX allowed on that rail.
I don't like running anything near MAX with no room to grow, hence looking at a new PSU with more capacity to safely run my PC without risk of blowing anything up because it pushed limits.

Back to the original question. The Superflowers are good PSU's. Not sure how much I trust a list from LTT though. Identify a couple that look good to you, would suggest in a 850W and multi-rail if possible, and then search for reviews on those specifically as that will tell you more than just a basic this company is good and this one is bad.

R2500 spent to get modular cables you’ll never change? Madness.

Like I said, each to their own. There have been much worse decisions, especially with the case lighting crowd when rgb is invovled.
Look at these grouches begrudging strangers the chance to tweak the aesthetics of a device that sits in their field of view for 100% of the time that they are participating in their favourite hobby. Modular cables and RGB are great because it opens up huge possibilities to make things fit into a theme or colour scheme - it's not just all about the rainbow vomit.

The list they are referring to is this one: PSU Tier List

And it is widely regarded and respected as an accurate ranking of the quality of PSUs. A lot of research goes into it, it is not a thumbsuck. You will see they have notes on some of the models (e.g. "models after 2019 are less reliable because of new components," etc.) So I would trust it.

@viceroy If I were you I'd go with a PSU rated for 100-150W higher than the "minimum" recommended wattage as per the manufacturer specs for your GPU, and buy the cheapest one you can find from the top two tiers of the PSUCultists list that meets your needs.

I personally got the Antec High Current Gamer 850w 80+ Gold Modular PSU, because of its TEN YEAR warranty.

The cables are a bit inflexible, but with a bit of finesse, you can pop them in and they'll get the job done. And you'll have a ten year warranty, so if you ever want to resell in the future, it'll be to your benefit.

Thanks to everyone who responded.
I've just ordered a Corsair RM1000x from @Oj0 for a really good price IMO.

Extremely highly rated in reviews, and on that PSU Tier list.
Bigger than I'd originally planned, but will work well for my needs now, and is practically future proof.
