Bikers!?

I agree with the comments on n the 450X, it's outdated and spares will be an issue.

I too have had a 690 Enduro R and they are really great bikes, no really issues with them and plenty of options to make them into awesome Rally machines. 690 prices are a Abit stupid at the moment, in fact it's not a buyer's market right now.

It really all depends on your budget, another great cheaper option is a KLR650. They're heavier, slower than a ktm 690 but it will out live you and the next 3 generations after you.

A note with big cc single cylinder bikes (600+k) they vibrate at higher speeds so don't expect to do any long distance rides at speed; It CAN do it but you don't want to.

100% agree with the kit. Buy it before you buy a bike or you will end up skimping on the only layer between you and (insert contender).
Armoured gloves, riding boots with ankle support, knee braces (not knee guards or compression guards) and good helmet.

Again knee braces not guards. Guards prevent forward impact, braces prevent hyper extension and twisting of the knee cap and of course guards the shin as well. Don't think it's necessary, let my wife show you 13 pins and a titanium rod down her entire leg, 2 years worth of surgeries and still not healed ( x-rays last week) . Kneee braces are costly 10K+ but seriously knee ops and not being able to walk properly, run or jump sucks!

Been phoning around and went to perry bikes. Not a single RC390 for sale in KZN at all, and only like 3 Supersports around. Although there are plenty of the new GIXXER 250 SF's but I did fall in love with the Ninja 400. What is up with KZN and not liking KTM's :/

Saw a 390 Duke today actually 👀

If you love the Ninja 400 why you looking for the RC 390?

Personally feel like the RC 390 is a more "fun" bike for Durban but I am swaying way more towards a Ninja 400 now looking at it in person. BUT I really need to see an RC 390 in person but none in KZN.

That's a rare sighting here, but the Dukes are pretty common for KTM, the RC not so much :(

That's the beauty of choice.

Does anybody know how/where to service an Aprilia? Gf is looking at getting one but worried about the servicing and parts.

Just to clarify, services and parts in Durban :)

Only one dealer in SA. Italian motorcycle importers based in sandton up here in the vaal. I would say give Sean Powell a call and hear how getting one serviced etc works.
Had a quick ride on friday on the new rs660, not a bad bike, just not sure its worth the money.

Only one I know of is in Sandton. Was there the other day actually, they have great coffee. And an RSA 125 for sale

That's a real shame...RSV4 really caught my eye. Back to the drawing board. Might give some places a call to see if they can do services here just incase.

Viewed the bike last Friday and decided to take it since it will be more than enough for me and I wanted something versatile to join my friends on the gravel roads. The bike cost R33k (15 000km on the clock). All the other bikes in that price range are either smaller engine capacities or heavier and more expensive (F650GS/F750GS). We did see a KLR650 on the local classifieds as well, but again the weight was an issue for me since I only weigh 60kg, so not a beefy rider at all. Quite happy with it, lightweight and very nimble. That being said, I am still a noob trying to learn to improve my riding.

In terms of kit:

Helmet - Airoh Spark Vibe
Gloves - Alphinestars SMX-1 Air V2
Jacket - Arlenness Mesh Jacket

Still need to save up for riding shoes and maybe pants as well since I am riding in my jeans.

Yeah, this bike isn't made for long miles since it only has an 8L tank which is located under the seat but it does put a smile on my face every time I return home.

For my first bike, I am not complaining and enjoying the ride.

Call Sean Powell. Top bloke and Aprillia are really trying to grow.
The RSV4 is a decent machine. I did a 6000km road trip/test with one alongside my ducati, and I have a mate that races one who let me at it just last week.
My only gripe with it, being big is the seating position.

I will do, I found some great deals for them. I'm 178cm, and slim, I don't think the size will be an issue.

Also those are lovely pictures :D super jelly

Just careful of some of the older ones, parts may be an issue. if you really like them, go 2020 and newer........
Yea my little buddy that races his is 1.68 and weighs in at a staggering 60kg. Dunno how how he tames that beast, it tried to kill me at every turn of the wrist on Wednesday with power wheelies out the corners....

And here I am still debating between a new 2018 RC 390 and a 2019 Ninja 400. I want to join the big bike club!

how does your wife feel about that statement :p

Bud in all honesty I still suggest getting something like a mt07, a Z650 etc! if you want to lob some money get a ducati supersport, or the aprillia rs660.
I am riding the triumph trident next week in a road/track test, then I can give you some input on that too, but the 675RS is also a PHENOMINAL bike.

and yes I know you want a sport looking bike :D

I'm in the middle about it really. It's going to be his first bike, so don't want anything nuts, he does want more of a sports bike indeed.

The RC is very cool ergo wise, but finding a good one is incredibly hard. Then there comes the reliability factor. Still investigating :p

MT07 in a supersport look sounds like a bike I heard about hmm... Yamaha R6.5 Haha. Seriously though I have considered the nakeds but I just can't even if I want to, mostly due to the power. I am a pleb so I don't want to touch anything over 400cc for now unless it's like the weak CBR500R.

I have been looking at the second-hand market and the reason I want the RC 390 (2018) is that it has 1000km on the clock and goes for only R59,000. Ninja 400 is hard to find second hand so new is R99,000 and then the used Ninja 300's are around R65,000 which just makes me feel like the RC is such a great deal.

I am worried about throwing a cylinder at my face once it gets hot and exploding like people tell me it will.

That I should start on a Turbo BUSA, jk she already replied.

Gave Perry bikes a call, they pointed me in the direction of Rocket Racing, apparently they have all of the service parts and the computer to service the RSV4, even the 2012 model. Just becomes another story when it comes to other OEM parts like the fairings and things, as they'll have to get that from JHB.

What you said earlier about getting the 2020 or newer because the parts will be hard to find makes me feel like they'll be very very scarce for the 2012s and such. I guess that's why they were going for a great price, around 120k with under 20k km on the clock.

There's a Swartpilen 401 with all the extras on it from the factory. The price was R84k, with 3500km on the clock. Speak to Harry Potgieter at Husqvarna SA if you're interested.

More fun, comfy and better looking than a Ninja 400 imo.

Honestly, I do like the Swartpilen 401, but it's just not my cup of tea. I know plenty of people recommend it and stand by it. I do need to see all of these bikes in person though, I was a bit iffy on the Ninja 400, till I saw it in person and my god do Ninja have some of the sexiest designs and fairrings.

Yea I hear you man, we all have our preferences.

From my experience, starting on a sport bike is not ideal. Your muscles are not yet used to it and sitting in the forward position kills your back, especially in the beginning. I used to commute to work with my laptop on my back and after the first two days I was in constant agony.

Not saying it will be your experience, just something I experienced. Your weight rests on your wrists instead of your bum, so it's a tiring ride.

And wrists. My first few commutes with my Gsxr was horrible. Everything hurt for a long time.

I'm more tempted than I should be. I see this is somewhere in Gauteng or a place where Gauteng people go to vacation.
Which shop is this at?
