I agree with the comments on n the 450X, it's outdated and spares will be an issue.
I too have had a 690 Enduro R and they are really great bikes, no really issues with them and plenty of options to make them into awesome Rally machines. 690 prices are a Abit stupid at the moment, in fact it's not a buyer's market right now.
It really all depends on your budget, another great cheaper option is a KLR650. They're heavier, slower than a ktm 690 but it will out live you and the next 3 generations after you.
A note with big cc single cylinder bikes (600+k) they vibrate at higher speeds so don't expect to do any long distance rides at speed; It CAN do it but you don't want to.
100% agree with the kit. Buy it before you buy a bike or you will end up skimping on the only layer between you and (insert contender).
Armoured gloves, riding boots with ankle support, knee braces (not knee guards or compression guards) and good helmet.
Again knee braces not guards. Guards prevent forward impact, braces prevent hyper extension and twisting of the knee cap and of course guards the shin as well. Don't think it's necessary, let my wife show you 13 pins and a titanium rod down her entire leg, 2 years worth of surgeries and still not healed ( x-rays last week) . Kneee braces are costly 10K+ but seriously knee ops and not being able to walk properly, run or jump sucks!
