Carbie Car Guys!

Wtf is your group doing?

That ecoboost motor is a tank... Here in Gauteng we've mebe lost 1? And our group was bout 200 fiestas strong with most modded beyond stage 1 performance wise.

There's also about 15 okes with hybrid turbos, 3 with big turbos and among them they've only lost one motor.
He’s forgetting to tell you 80% of the story.

I’m in the CPT ST CRW. I know most of those guys. The Jx1 is on his 3rd motor now I think. Ask all of them (I asked most) all of their reasoning for the engine going was their own choice and fault. They all admitted to pushing the car too far with unstable software and they made that choice to do so knowing the consequences. Just the other day a guy lost his motor because “I wanna see what she can do stock block” 289kW later it cracked and he happily ordered a forged one. 89% of those guys knew that they were pushing the car.

I’m running a safe daily SW stage 1.

I had software and Karter intake when it popped. It didn’t live an easy life though, was up and down Killarney a bunch when I still wanted to waste money 😛

I know of a bunch that popped motors up there too, never compared numbers though. The JHB guys I am still in contact with are mostly ex ST180 owners at this point.

It also might be as simple as guys not being honest about warranty claims due to being modded or the kak petrol we get combined with the coastal air and mods.
Or the tuners down here are just kak.

Mine pulled timing and had pre detonation on the stock map with no mods though.

I smell salt.

just jealous your GT86 won’t do much against my car.

Here’s a stage 2 86 against a stock standard ST180. Cry me a river.
"Stages" are stupid and mean nothing. Also I don't know why everyone compares their cars to the GT86 in a straight line - well done on beating a slow car built for corners and fun at something it's not built for.

maybe its the earlier models that had the recall which are bombing ? i think pre-2015 had issues if i remember right

It also does seem like a lot of engines to be popping, perhaps the modders are shite,
i know after i sold my old megane the guy went to some dark artz or some shit and the engine was dead in a month
Maybe their tuners that side are just shite.

From EU forums and my own experience and of others here, the Fiesta ST is very reliable. Especially in the 'used turbo' market.

Eh, guess you can buy a lemon in any car.

You might think it's stupid, but stages do mean something... It's street lingo, and will remain here for quite awhile.

Stage 1: Tune and possibly intake.
Stage 2: Can include anything from FMIC to Water Meth.
Stage 3: Upgraded Turbo +++

Nah, they vary from company-to-company, car-to-car and anything else. They're pretty meaningless because everyone has different standards for it. A "stage 2" turbo/supercharged BRZ should be putting out 400hp over here (but then again depends on the turbo you go for) - but clearly from Mr Naai's video it looked bolt-ons at most.

It varies so much per car, per setup, per company that it is much clearer to just say the major mods that it has IMO.

The fuel they get is every else is much better than what we get here, hence no new fiesta or focus ST… or at least that is excuse Ford is sticking to.

The dreaded ringland failure did seem to affect mostly older cars, mine was definitely built in 2013, first registered in early Jan 2014. Most of the cars on the list I posted were 2015 or older.

That being said, I recently had a laugh with the service advisor at Ford after asking if the fiesta they had on the lift was in for a new motor. He admitted they do a lot of motors on these cars.

Well, we've pretty much figured it out in the streets where I jol. You don't need to like it, but it is used widely in the street car scene here in Gauteng. 🤷‍♀️

It's never used here unless you're a kid with Daddy's money that has no idea what he's doing. Probably related in-part with how much extra money floats around in Toronto. A fast car here is 1000hp+ Lambo TT Huracan, Demon, McLaren 720S, etc. This city has too much money.

HP is dumb here anyway, loads of cop presence and REALLY low speed limits. I'm just gonna stick to my slow cars that feel fast and are fun to chuck around corners or a track (S2000, MX5, BRZ/86, MR2, etc).

Well, most of us are not kids with daddy's money and we label our cars in stages. Especially when you get to street drags, car meets etc.

Different car culture I guess. I can't speak for Lambos etc, but I can speak for the average car guy.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. As long as you're having fun. Just be careful calling someone else's culture 'stupid'. You might just get a poesklap. :D

Luckily we can still stuff a few hundred in a metro's hand and have the entire voortrekker weg for the night. :D

Well put, bring your "fast off the line-mobile" and lets put my stock GT86 against it around the Formula K track.

Different car culture I guess.

Stages are used world wide to differentiate power levels vs parts required. And to indicate how to spend your money without going down a dead end. Real guys guys understand this. Subaru OEM used this exact verbage to denote upgrade stages .i.e PP1, PP2, PP3 (power pack 1, power pack 2)

Performance Modded car culture (engine, power, emission) , cannot exist in Canada. There are too many rules.

We actually have car culture in RSA. WRT to modding engines.

Comparing stages across different cars with diff engines/sizes is merely indicative of a persons lack of knowledge.

Canada, the land of the freely taxed.

PandaAttack. Well said bud.

It appears, I need NOS....

Oh damn, I'll just have to let everyone who has modded cars in Canada to know that they can't exist anymore. Damn shame eh? But it's fine - we prefer using these more common denominators here for performance upgrades;

Maple - This is mainly related to suspension and handling, making it run as smooth as Maple Syrup!
Goose - This is around adding extra sound to your car, subs, speakers, amps, etc. Mostly just hosers do this if I'm honest.
Beaver - This is when you want a small but potent upgrade package, usually small bolt-on turbo / supercharger with minimal supporting mods required. Gonna have to save up your loonies and skip on the 2-4s for this as it can get pricey.
Moose - This is when you wanna blow off your toque with both power and cost to really show off in the Timmies on your way to get a double double!

Endless fun for a stock car and only just passed 70 000km. Brings out the inner racer within me. Love all of its 69kw of power...

Your cars are basically identical, can you ladies stop arguing about slow cars, especially when both of these slow cars are an absolute blast to drive on track.
And from the countless track days i've been too, and the amount of GTI's and ST's that have nearly killed me, the average person cannot drive for shit :D
