Keyboard Nut Thread

Mr Attack, do you think it would be possible and not too time-consuming to use this (or similar) lube on Outemu Red switches? They are Cherry clones as far as I can tell. I'm wondering if I can smooth out my work typing experience for not a lot of money/effort :)
Hmmm... Switch lubing will always be a tedious and time consuming process. But what I can guarantee you, is that it will transform your typing experience considerably. It will sound much better and the scratchiness will be greatly reduced. R200 in supplies and a Saturday evening.

I bought a set of Tai-Hao Miami PBT Doubleshot Keycaps I think in June from a fellow Carbie

I have since decided to go a different route.

Let me know if you are interested.
I sent you a PM. 100% interested.

Thank you. Will be browsing a bit tonight. Seems like KBDFans are priced a bit more, but at least I know what I am getting. Hmmm.

I wonder what happened with all of Rebeltech's stock. Would love to buy one of those Miami sets right about now.

Coincidentally, I've got two extra Ducky sets lying around (Pudding and, I think Midnight?) for planned builds that never ended up happening. :p

Jumping in here a bit late not sure if I missed it but where do you buy switches separately? My knowledge of customizing keyboards is very limited

I have a Aorus k9 Mech kb with red switches and it comes with 9 blue changeable switches and keycaps but I would like to change the whole kb to the blue switches rather? I see it is Flaretech switches?

Maybe @GIGABYTE South Africa knows.

Unfortunately, you need those optical switches for that board.

Best bet is to ask the supplier or search the Chinese sites for compatible switches.

Ok so those switches are specific to the board. Didnt know that.

Cool will look around and see what I can find. Thanks.

so, dipping dem toes in the shallow side

bought @Gouko_Tenrou 's Kludge with Pudding Caps, but have to say I don't like the look

swapped back to stock and much better... maybe because old keyboard was also the same lighting look

but now that BIG CON: how ironically I find myself wanting to use the TKL keys more in the last 2 days, since using the 60%, than I have probably in all of this year

so I will definitely get myself one of those USB keypad things or the winner would be a G13 :(

It turns out that, Kailh BOX Burnt Orange switches are actually clicky.

After a bout a weeks use, I noticed some of the switches are making crunchy/clicky noises. I moved them to less used keys and today the 'new' switches also started clicking.

Apparently, when the factory lube wears off Kailh BOX tactile switches, they become clicky. So you have to reapply lube on the contact point for the switch to remain silent. I wish I knew this beforehand... I'm not too bothered by the noise, but the inconsistency in the switches in their current state... Some click, and others don't. Mainly I'm upset because if I wanted another set of clicky switches, I would've bought another set of clicky switches.

I'm pretty sure my new Hako True switches are also going to click shortly after going into a fresh board...

Anyone know when the Logitech G915 TKL is coming to SA? Really tempted to get one of Amazon but it'll cost a good R6.5K to import :cautious:

So I ran to JK Hobbies in Somerset West to go check what lubes they might have and they had this TRL Silicone Diff oil for R160 2000CS , first I was skeptical, but I thought what the hell I might as well since I have more switches than I can use.
So instead of lubing one switch and I straight went and did my entire keyboard and was incredibly suprised with the results. These gateron reds feel better than I ever thought a switch could feel and the sound is a deep thoc instead of that high pitch smack.
I still need to lube the stabilizers and haven't gotten any Dielectric grease for those yet. But those are on my short list along with fixing my ctrl and win keys xD Also, in the video. The CTRL key as the unlubed Gateron Red and the rest of the keyboard are the lubed ones.
And also please excuse my professional audio and video quality xD
@PandaAttack1
As it turns out, I think the silicone oil lube might be a little thin as it doesn't sit very long as I can notice a difference between my wasd (About 40 hours of use these last few days) and my F row keys (Haven't used a lot). It still feels smooth, but can feel a big difference in the smoothness between the switches. As this is my first time lubing switches I'm not sure if this is standard but I don't believe that it is. that said, it still feels like they are lubed just not to the same degree then the rest. I also opened them and checked to see if it's still lubed and it was.
But I was wondering, would mixing it with a light silicone grease increase the "Stickyness"/the time it stays there? or should I try get a thicker or lighter silicone lube?

Very interesting... The lube I applied to my fidget toy still feels the same. I spam it a lot between matches and while reading, so it does see a lot of use. But after a week or two of use it should not feel that much different. There might be a substance in your lube that evaporate quicker? Let us know.

Unfortunately, you can't really mix lubes. They will separate quickly and then you end up with a mess. Some have claimed to have some success with mixing silicone oil and grease, but it won't last long. Eventually they will separate. Worth a try though?

@PandaAttack1, If you are taking the Pudding set, would you mind letting me know how those caps look on the Draconic? As I'm interested in getting pudding keycaps but just not sure if the LEDs are bright enough for it to actually look good.

I only took the midnight ducky caps. I'm not really an RGB fan, so I'm not the one to ask here.

If someone in Pretoria has a pudding keycap set, I'm more than happy to try it on the draconic and send you a video.

Hi Guys,

I recently got myself a Redragon Broadsword pro and looking to replace the blue switches with browns or red. Any idea where I can purchase some.

Thanks

My stuff arrived today, and it's all brilliant. :)

Not sure what those 3D-printed things are, but happy to be part of the GB!

Keyboard stand for displaying your work of art?

Banggood has a good selection of switches, the only other retailer I know of is scamtech...

Can anyone recommend a cheap mechanical keyboard (sub 1k) with per key RGB backlighting?

When it's back in stock, the Redragon Kumara is a decent bet locally: Redragon RD-K530RGB Draconic RGB LED Backlit Mechanical Brown Switches Gaming Keyboard - Wootware

If you're willing to import, the market opens up a bit, you can look into the following boards:

Geek GK61 61 Keys Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Hot Swappable Gateron Optical Switch RGB Type-C Programmable 60% Layout Gaming Keyboard (note this board uses optical switches which communicate with the PCB differently to other switches. Won't make a difference if you aren't planning on swopping them out at any point in the future, but I figured it's worth mentioning. The switches are VERY smooth if you're into linears)

If you want to get into a project board and want to do a bit of DIY, you can look into this board, but I think it'll go over your budget once you factor in keycaps and switches

As Cujo said, they are keyboard stands. Don't put your mother, gf, wife, (insert other important woman in your life here) on it because it will definitely break.
The only thing you should put on a pedestal is your keeb

Ducky One 2 Mini Good in Blue

Let me start by saying - now I fully understand the whole buzz around Ducky keyboards. They live up to the expectations in my opinion but that being said, I am a keyboard lover.

It is my first time experiencing Cherry MX Silent Red and I must say, they have a nice touch and sound feedback. I have also installed o-rings on the keycaps.

First impressions, the Ducky is lighter and thinner than my DK61 Pro. But I feel that the case of the Ducky is more flimsy compared to my DK61 Pro. If you flex it, you can hear a plastic crunch if I can explain it like that. You do not experience that when typing but it was something I noticed. Keycaps feel way more premium than my DK61 Pro. Felt it right off the bat when I started typing.

What I also love about the Ducky is the ability to change the location of the FN key by adjusting the dip switches on the back. That allowed me to remap the arrow keys exactly the same as on my DK61 Pro, making my transitions between the keyboards so much easier.

Overall I am happy with my purchase of the keyboard, thanks to Carbonite, and it is currently my daily driver while I will be using the DK61 Pro for work (currently typing this message with it).

PS: @PandaAttack1 gets first preference when I EVER decide to sell this keyboard.

Please enjoy some photos that I took of the keyboard:

Haha, girlfriend initially thought it was a phone stand. We tried both and were impressed both times. ;)

PBT keycaps really are something hey?

Glad you are satisfied with your purchase dude, you got it for a steal. A great upgrade to your DK61. Great photos to boot!

One thing, the nasty 1u bottom row caps have been noticed. -1.
