Keyboard Nut Thread

Quick question, how did you get Glorius to ship to you??? xD I can't seem to get them to ship to Cape Town. Or did you use a different website?
It's a little bit of a complicated thing for me. I can't really say everything, but basically, they were sending me a Model O Wireless anyway, and I convinced them to ship a bunch of other things here for me as a slightly bulk (not too much bulk) order. I am also in the middle of opening up a custom peripheral shop, but am fighting to get an importers code because... yeah.

If you want to buy from them directly (amazon ships here sometimes) you can use Scott's shipping service or MyUS. Just be wary that depending on what you order, customs tends to throw a little fit and charge you a nice extra on arrival.

edit: psssssst I recommend if you are looking for an endgame (there never really is one, but this is close) you should save for the GMMK Pro ;)

As some of you know, I have been trying some alternative lubes. The purpose of this was to find a Krytox alternative that is available locally.

I have not found a 100% replacement yet, but what I have found is something still perfectly useable. Especially if you want to try your hand at lubing, and still experience the feel and sound without the major premium that comes with Krytox and the like, If you are are lubing expensive switches or want to have the best lube experience, stick with Krytox/Tribosys.

Glad to hear that the testing went well.

Now with regards to linear switches/ gateron reds, would you say that a lubricant like that is sufficient or would you say the difference between the Krytox and Lucas oil's is significant enough to justify the +- R450 investment for Novelkeys Krytox 205G0???? Or rather find a difference solutions like Lucas oil's??

Look, there's no denying that Krytox does a fantastic job. But the Lucas Oil's product is definitely sufficiently good. Given 5g/ml of Krytox G205 will run you closer to R600 to have it in hand, the other one at R150 for 60ml becomes a lot more appealing.

If you know exactly what you want, and you have R600 to blast, go for the Krytox. If you want to try lube on switches and get an experience just as good, go for the local product. I'm going to be lubing my Gateron Reds with Lucas, even through I have Krytox on hand. But my Hako and Panda switches that are coming in is going to get Krytox.

Our winner: Lucas oil's Factory Team Silicone Shock Fluid @ 80w. (1000cst) Coming in at R150 for 60ml. I bought mine from Jix Hobbies in Pretoria.

@PandaAttack1 did you buy all their stock or cause all of Carbonite to buy it all? xD
Definitely getting me some once they get some stock. Thank you for your testing :)

Ah noooo! I was scared this might happen. They had like 5 - 10 bottles in the store when I bought mine.

I only bought one bottle, as 60ml would probably last me a couple of years.

So I ran to JK Hobbies in Somerset West to go check what lubes they might have and they had this TRL Silicone Diff oil for R160 2000CS , first I was skeptical, but I thought what the hell I might as well since I have more switches than I can use.
So instead of lubing one switch and I straight went and did my entire keyboard and was incredibly suprised with the results. These gateron reds feel better than I ever thought a switch could feel and the sound is a deep thoc instead of that high pitch smack.
I still need to lube the stabilizers and haven't gotten any Dielectric grease for those yet. But those are on my short list along with fixing my ctrl and win keys xD Also, in the video. The CTRL key as the unlubed Gateron Red and the rest of the keyboard are the lubed ones.
And also please excuse my professional audio and video quality xD

Nice find dude! How much better do those gateron reds feel without that scratchy sssss sssssssssss?

Glad you went for it! The TRL Silicone Diff oil might be closer to a thick lube than the 1000cst oil I tested. I'll pop by tomorrow and have a look if they have some in stock. I'll add it to my long term test.

Edit: @TicTac see Cookie's post above.

Omw it really does feel absolutely amazing and like a completely different switch. I must say it being my first time lubing switches with a brush and Silicone Oil, I realize that some of the keys I was a bit light on and that the keys I lubed at the end, feel and sound alot smoother than the first couple. So I geuss I'll be taking them apart again in the next few days just to apply some more to those that need it, only about 10 xD So overall I say it went well. I must say this keyboard feels amazing when typing but damn does it shine while gaming. These switches are incredible xD (Not sponsored by Gateron)

I'm officially super fucking stoked for black Friday! Novel keys will be getting stock of some GMK Dots and some milkshake keycaps.

I'm going to stay awake and die if I don't get at least one set.

Oh sweet baby jesus. Any idea if there's a specific time they'll be dropping?

I want to buy keycaps for 3 x TKL boards in my collection... Now this? Nooooo.

Gents, best place to buy PBT keycaps if I'm not too concerned with the best quality? Sublimated is fine.

Check out Banggood, they have quite the collection of keycaps here
I've never ordered from Banggood. Is it the same as Amazon, where they will accumulate my different orders, and send 1 box? Or is it like ebay where there will be a shipment from each vendor?

It's like Amazon, where they will ship depending on which facility has availability. I've had some orders split because the items were out of stock in one warehouse but another one was able to ship it

Thank you. Will be browsing a bit tonight. Seems like KBDFans are priced a bit more, but at least I know what I am getting. Hmmm.

I wonder what happened with all of Rebeltech's stock. Would love to buy one of those Miami sets right about now.

That’s a darn good question, what happened to their stock? Of all their items not just the caps that is @RebelTech

How has the performance been ? No reason to switch from my G513 but the 815 looks very tempting. Was on sale for R2500 now R 3000 so hopefully it dips again

I love it but then again I discovered when I got it that I much prefer low profile keys so if you are someone that doesn't care or finds they prefer standard keys your impression will not be as favourable. Great keyboard for typing and gaming.

Sorry that ya missed the sale, I'd say it absolutely is worth 2.5K.

I bought a set of Tai-Hao Miami PBT Doubleshot Keycaps I think in June from a fellow Carbie

I have since decided to go a different route.

Let me know if you are interested.

I've not really had issues with banggood, haven't got anything so far that wasn't what I ordered.

Edit: They even do the amazon thing where they don't use the post office, it's rather nice!

@Oj0 might know? Although I suspect that, if it was going to end up on Carb or wherever, we would have seen it by now.

Mr Attack, do you think it would be possible and not too time-consuming to use this (or similar) lube on Outemu Red switches? They are Cherry clones as far as I can tell. I'm wondering if I can smooth out my work typing experience for not a lot of money/effort :)
