Great, now Amazon has a 15% off coupon thing going for shipments to South Africa "ZA15"
Can get the Quest2 for under R5750 now.
You legend, thanks for the heads up. Just ordered my second one. Works out to 6k for the express shipping option.

Well said! I totally agree the value of the Quest is really amazing!

I got mine for €380 after Tax Free return, around R7000 👌

Now I am looking at some upgrades:
Current Spend:
  • Oculus Quest 2: R7000
  • Aftermarket Link Cable: R310
  • Virtual Desktop and other cheap games: R750

Total less than R12 000 ! !

Sidequest is amazing btw, also some russion website is great too... PM me for details

Also the Humble VR bundle is still up for the next 5 days if you haven't gotten it yet!!

PSA: Although Amazon says Quest 2 stock available from the 28 November I just got a delivery update indicating delivery 24-30 November! On the order I placed 20 minutes ago.

That is great! I also just ordered it.

Now a Carry Case, do you think the headset with DAS will fit: Amazon

Awesome. Just be aware they are a small company so you may not get a lot of communication on your order status. You will get a notification when they process the order and when they indicate it is ready for collection/out for delivery. (took 5 working days for me).

Not sure about the case size but here's the dimensions of my headset in the fully retracted position so you can check.

Nice thanks a lot!

Also did some more digging and found this review:

Max discount is $20 (just something to keep in mind).

I don't get why people say this. It's appears to be a decent all round PCVR headset that sits nicely in between the Quest 2 and the Index in terms of price, better value than the Index better performance than the Quest 2 (but of course is PCVR only). If the concern is tracking (which isn't bad, most reviews have it as perfectly passable) then pair it with knuckles controllers for something still cheaper than the Index but better screen (though smaller FOV).
Don't recall it supporting lighthouse, it's a WMR device at the end of the day.

I'm seeing some reviewers with severe tracking issues.

Hmmm, I was seeing the opposite (well, that's it decent enough that is). Skip to the conclusion.

He also did another test playing eleven tennis.

And here's an explanation perhaps (sensitive to lighting)?

I was happy enough with the tracking on the Odyssey+, so if its better than that then I'd be happy. But I guess YMMV. I haven't spent enough time doing actiony things with my Quest 2 to really compare but so far the Q2 and the Odyssey+ seem similar enough.

I personally am more than willing to sacrifice a small amount of latency and bandwidth (image quality) using Wi-Fi instead of being tethered. Which is where Hideinlight's comment comes from. Those who play games with lots of movement hate being tethered, image quality is ranked much lower on the scale of immersion breaking experiences than having your tether in the way. When you're playing a sim or seated experience the cable is only a minor inconvenience if well routed, image quality is king, so that's probably why people keep repeating that comment.

I guess it may really depend on person/playstyle. I wasn't too happy with the Q2, VD works fine I guess but I could see compression sometimes and I had microstutters at various points. On the other hand using my Odyssey+ even though it has a cable (and I have an extension) I tend to forget it in VR, but that said 90% of the time I'm standing on the spot or moving slightly in a small square, maybe if I had a large playspace that i would freely walk around it would be different.

I'm hanging on the Q2 but I don't know if I would get the Reverb G2 because after experiencing OLED on the Odyssey I am really hoping for an Odyssey 2, once you go black you can't go back (to grey).

Tyriel Woods - Happy with the tracking but he still ranks it lower than rift/rift s/quest
ThrillSeeker - "tracking leaves much to be desired"
Virtual Reality Oasis - "Controller tracking doesn't match up to superior Oculus tracking system or base station tracking system"
Upload VR - Tracking issues at waist height.
-Tracking a few degrees off from time to time
-Controllers struggle close to headset cameras
- and strong light sources
Also some general WMR software issues across reviews, upload VR documents a few.

As a side the G2 was the headset that made me want to get back into VR after selling my Rift S. But for the same price I now own a modded quest 2 and have a second one on the way.

I feel like the answer to what's better than a reverb G2 is pretty much 2 oculus quest 2's :p

Thanks for the summary.

Hopefully they can improve the tracking a bit in firmware/software. That said I have been extremely happy with my Odyssey+ . The Quest 2 is great but the OLED on the O+ is something that needs to be experienced. None of the MURA/Spud/Smearing issues the OG Rift CV1 had. Also performs a lot better (it isn't the resolution, it's the overhead I think due to VD or Link).

Anyway, will play around a bit more with the Quest 2 and VD, maybe I can get it working better and perhaps with the Link update Q2 will have improved that experience, but for now I definitely had to dial down settings on the Q2 whereas I was supersampling on the Odyssey. I think it is the Link or VD overhead or perhaps it is because there isn't ASW coming into play with VD (I assume there is with Link but not sure). If only I could get rid of the VD micro stutters.

Having watched an overload of videos....

Reverb G2, amazing visuals. Everything else sucks

Quest 2, amazing everything from what i can tell, but not as good visuals

Went and took amazon up on their ZA15 offer! Quite a nice deal. Decided on a third party usb cable and third party elite strap... Lets see!

Regarding quest 2

You guys had any issues with blurriness??

So many reports relating to poor workmanship on the lenses...

Not on my end, I'm pretty blown away by the clarity.

Which reviews are you looking at? If its MRTV just be careful, he's been salty since Oculus didn't send him a review sample (HP did way back in June already). After he bought a Quest 2 and did the unboxing video he didn't even bother releasing a review for it, the video description makes it clear he thinks other reviews are "Facebook approved".

The overall reviewer consensus I've seen has been that the lenses and screen are big selling points of the quest 2.

Only blurriness I have seen is with Virtual Desktop and that's due to me optimizing for low latency when playing fast paced titles in wireless PCVR, nothing to do with the lenses or screen. At the higher settings in VD with their new environments its actually been the first time I have used a VR headset for browsing and media consumption because the legibility of text is so good. Also playing 90 Hz via link and on version 23 is great, no blurriness that I can see.

Had a friend over this weekend (trying to get him to buy my extra Quest 2 :p) and he was blown away by the improvements in clarity and reduced screen door effect. He owned the original HTC Vive.

On reddit and Amazon reviews. Complaints about imperfections on the lenses it seems

Just word searched all the 3, 2 and 1 star reviews on Amazon for the Quest 2.

Searching for keyword lens produces sub 10 negative results of total 4071 reviews. Negative lens comments are related to scratching their lenses while wearing glasses (not factory faults)

Searching for keyword blur only finds 2 negative hits in the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews
1) discussing ipd
2) discussing blur at edges

I think we're pretty safe with the Quest 2 lenses but be carefull if you use glasses. I'd recommend some third party lens protectors, I 3D printed some to use when friends visit.

Also a google search for Quest 2 lens defects produces 2 Sources. . There is an Oculus forum post but the guy admits he wears glasses and has a smudge in the centre of the lens right off the bat. The other is reddit which I trust about as trustworthy as a Nigerian prince.

Hence me asking, no need to go overboard

Thinking of getting the Quest 2 from Amazon now. Would the 64GB be suffice though? Also, should I get a link cable from amazon at same time or does the virtual desktop work well enough? (also only have an rx470 so might not even work in first place)

64GB should suffice yes! I got the 256GB since I plan on leaving some large movies on the device and I am a power user per say so modding will be done!

No need to buy the official cable, can get locally for much cheaper. Or even just get an Anker one from Amazon [emoji1362]

Virtual Desktop still requires the link cable unless you go wireless but this is quite complex to get it working perfectly.
(wireless congestion, PC direct to router, only oculus on 5Ghz, pretty fast wifi router)
