I'm so excited to also get on the VR train.

Will be in Amsterdam for a day and I will be picking up a Quest 2 before heading back home.
look up some of the accessories you may want so you can get them at the same time, personally would suggest going for the vive deluxe audio strap then you can print the adapters locally. Also look at the lense covers and a gun stock if your in fps games.

Atleast you will save on some shipping costs

My biggest problem is space! I have no more space to bring anything else back lol.
Already going to be carrying the Quest 2 in my hand as Carry on...

But for the time being I will make due with just basic strap - It isn't as bad as everyone is saying and mostly people who upgrade it have been on VR for thousands of hours - I have maybe 1 hour total lol

Then I have a 3D Printer so I have done loads of research on all the parts I can print and have bookmarked things like the DAS adapters and Lense Covers

I am so desperate for space, I am considering leaving the Box behind and buying the travel case and carrying the VR like that lol

First world problems I know...

So I did the das upgrade on my quest 2 was really worth it. Tried Pavlov last night and kinda addicted now 😅. Need a gun stock now because aiming sucks
Nice. Returning my elite strap to Amazon for a refund and getting the DAS instead.

i honestly tried the elastic with those tricks i saw on youtube and it was painful at the back of my head and abit at the front because of the unbalanced weight. its up to you if you want to take a chance but wouldnt advise honestly might ruin your first proper experience.

what if you print your adapters and take them with you then just fit the DAS and chuck the elastic and boxes, that way your still carrying one item in hand.

yeah i had the elite strap but mine didn't have any break issues luckily, i sold it off because having a second headphone device was getting annoying so i switched to DAS for convenience, was the best decision ever, as much at the elite strap is comfortable the DAS keeps the HMD more stable on the head and really comfy with the easier audio solution.

What method of attachment did you use for the DAS mounting? 3D printed mounts?

Wonder how the sound of the DAS compares to the headphones I ordered. Might of been a better idea to just straight up go DAS, now that I take the costs into consideration.

A week or two of usage won't put me off lol - I am already this side and on my way home I am picking up the headset.

I checked Amazon UK DAS and Grips for the Quest 2 landed would be about 170 Pounds and can have it by end of Nov

Which headphones did you order? Can one wear normal headphones like Sennheiser Over the Ear?

Yip you can wear normal headphones. My Hyper X Cloud Alphas sit very comfortably over the strap. Only a small bit of contact at the top of the ear cup. The material strap is not an issue and elite strap is 2-3 mm thick so any overlap on a headphone with good padding won't be felt.

Edit: My heads in the medium to large range so your mileage may differ

Very nice bundle

Fall VR Bundle

I'd hold up on the bluetooth headphones for now. There' s way to much latency, even if it says it's low latency. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something. Went with the ones without the optional cable connection. HD350BT.

However I connect it to the PC and stream wirelessly with Virtual Desktop the audio is in sync, My motherboard says bluetooth 4.2 So I'm not sure what is up. Maybe the latency from Virtual desktop actually helps. Or my motherboard does something my Quest2 does not. I'm kind of confused atm.

I thought the Quest 2 didn't support Bluetooth Headphones? At least not officially.

It also doesn't support pirated games or other login methods besides forced FB - but usually the most 'unofficial' options are the best :D
I've used BT headsets and earbuds on my Quest 1 and Quest 2 just fine - it's better than dangling wires and haven't experienced latency issues. Or maybe there was latency, it was just imperceptible to me

Root is the more correct term. Jailbreaking is isolated to those crappy Apple devices :D

Other methods besides having root access to not use FB login. I'm using my Quest 2 without logging in to my FB account with telemetry disabled. Some drawbacks like lack of multiplayer, suits me fine though.
Root would be nice, but other 'backdoors' would be sufficient.

Had the same issues with BT headphones on the rift S.

Anything above 25 ms delay (25 ms just barely) is detectable when there is a difference between image and sound, dependent on your sensitivity. BT headphones have a range in the 30-45 ms range so are generally just for audio. Even my Jabra's with BT 5.0 support can't be used for PC gaming.

You're Virtual desktop case is actually very interesting since the 15m/s-25ms image delay from virtual desktop is actually bringing the audio and image closer together ( 15-20 ms) which is pretty much imperceptible. Will have to test it this weekend and see.

Finally got my hands on it...

I’m keen to try and get into VR. Any suggestions on a good cheap starter unit? Suggestions from Amazon in the UK are an option too as my sister there. She can bring it back. Even open to second hand options :) thanks in advance

I would not buy anything other than the Quest2 at this point. And it's all you need to get started since it's fully standalone, with the added ability to connect to your pc so it's the all in one solution and also cheapest.

I cannot justify the cost of getting a Valve index here, and the HP reverb G2 seems to be more for people who wants to play mostly car/flight sims.

Something which the Oculus Quest 2 can do well too.
You need Facebook though, which kind of sucks but I rarely even post on there anyways. Mostly using it as a birthday reminder.

Great, now Amazon has a 15% off coupon thing going for shipments to South Africa "ZA15"
Can get the Quest2 for under R5750 now.

Max discount is $20 (just something to keep in mind).

...and the HP reverb G2 seems to be more for people who wants to play mostly car/flight sims.

I don't get why people say this. It's appears to be a decent all round PCVR headset that sits nicely in between the Quest 2 and the Index in terms of price, better value than the Index better performance than the Quest 2 (but of course is PCVR only). If the concern is tracking (which isn't bad, most reviews have it as perfectly passable) then pair it with knuckles controllers for something still cheaper than the Index but better screen (though smaller FOV).

I personally am more than willing to sacrifice a small amount of latency and bandwidth (image quality) using Wi-Fi instead of being tethered. Which is where Hideinlight's comment comes from. Those who play games with lots of movement hate being tethered, image quality is ranked much lower on the scale of immersion breaking experiences than having your tether in the way. When you're playing a sim or seated experience the cable is only a minor inconvenience if well routed, image quality is king, so that's probably why people keep repeating that comment.

I find the value proposition also just too good hen considering between the G2 and Quest 2.

The disparity in value gets even higher when going for knuckle controllers since not only are you paying extra for the controllers (280 dollars! base price) but also for the required base stations (cheapest price for import on amazon is R2600. So lets say an additional R8000 on top of the G2's base price [R12000 (import)-16000 (estimated local)]. That's R20000 for the tracking solution fix, that's a no thanks for me on something that honestly should have just been equivalent to Quest 2 tracking from the start.

My Quest 2 with Vive Deluxe audio strap and custom controller grips cost me in total about R11500 so it was the better value proposition for me especially since I wanted wireless. In the end it's up to your use case and the advise here on which is better is ultimately also dependent on each individuals VR needs.

Edit: But yes the R20 000 price on the G2 (with knuckles) vs what you would pay for the Index is much cheaper and very tempting if this option falls into your VR use case.
