HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Thanks guys, will go for the 32 ohm version then.

Was up till 2 am reading up on other forums 😂. I knew there would be a lot to learn, but damn, I didn't realise how deep this rabbit hole could go  .
The DT770 is a good choice if you're wanting closed back. It's on the brighter side, so only go in if you enjoy a brighter sound. It does enjoy some amplification (improved dynamics etc.). I had the 250 ohm a while back, so can't talk to the 32 ohm. Either way, it's a good choice to enter the rabbit hole. Personally, I preferred the DT990 by a fair margin (the 990 is also a superb gaming headphone - up there with the best).

That sent me down another research rabbit hole, because these will mostly be used for gaming and occasionally music. However I can't find any DT990 32 ohm's available locally. And on second thought the GF might not be too impressed with open back 😂 .

iFi Zen DAC is messing with my mind... Time to either keep as backup or part ways with the NuPrime uDSD...

A friend of mine in the Cape has the iFi Zen DAC. He bought it when it launched and praises it's ability. I think he may be selling it now (or soon). DM me if you're serious and I'll chat to him and put you guys in touch if he is selling.

Don't part ways with it - I totally regret selling mine - this is one item it is worth hoarding especially since it's so good for so cheap

Yeah... Audio Science Review placed some doubt in my mind as well

I use it as a DAC only... The headphone amp doesn't really interest me..

Pro tip. Trust your ears over ASR any day of the week. There's a couple of pretentious twats there that even manage to dwarf my pretentious twatness. I agree with naughty though, don't let the uDSD go if you don't have to.

Hello friends. :) I come seeking knowledge. I have been playing on a set of akg earpods for a few months after I had to sell my Steelseries Arctis Pro's. I am a bit over it now and looking at buying some headphones to replace them. My budget is about R1200. I know hyperX has some better performing drivers for the price even though they are branded as "gaming" headphones. I need something with a mic too. 2nd Hand or new any recommendations for me guys/gals? Much appreciated!

I think the current budget headset darling is the Cooler Master MH751. It's a rebranded hi-fi headphone (Takstar Pro 82) with a mic, like the OG Clouds were. Not sure what stock levels are like but they go for about R 1 500.

Thank you for the recommendation bud! I will go some reading around this one.

Compared to the MH650's? Can't seem to find stock of the 751's...

I'd suggest the opposite. Stick with the MH650. It's within budget and they sound great for what they are.
When budget is not an issue:

Lol, maybe the 800S. No mic and a bit light on the low end though.
True. But you pick and choose your flavour and eq the hell out of it.

I'm a big proponent of "user-driven" EQ. I haven't listened to the 800S long enough to know if they respond well to EQ down low (i.e. how much they can handle cleanly).

I'm quite happy with the MH650's as all rounders. I don't feel the need to baby them throughout the day (not that I treat them poorly, just no "white glove" treatment). Price of the MH650's are same as replacement pads on the Senns....

If you haven't come right yet.

They don't have in stock. Seems like a local/global shortage depending on which store you speak to. And seemingly all of the stores I contacted are only on order. Does anyone perhaps know of a store in SA that actually holds stock of Beyer products?

Or as an alternate question, what other recommendations does anyone have for 32-80Ohm headphones for a bit of gaming and music? Max budget of around R4500+-.

I've been happy with my HE 400is up until now, but tempted to try something new. Would the 6xx be a decent switch? Or what else is there worth considering?

Amp: ADL GT40
Mostly gaming and music.

For gaming i would recommend DT990 and Fidelio X2, both open back though.
Music HD650 :)
