Thoughts on the new naked ADSL Telkom packages?

Naked adsl... wonder if I can get it on month to month?!
You can get month to month if you have your own router. If they supply you have to pay back with a contract. I have been with them for 7 years as I do not have wireless in my area. However, Telkom is moving away from copper and reducing technicians. Moving over to LTE.

My 10 meg line runs at about 9.5 meg with almost 100% up time. Maybe I am just lucky?

I spent 10 mins on the line to a telkom agent... I asked him if they have Naked ADSL yet.
He sounded confused so I explained
"Naked ADSL is where you don't have the voice portion"

He then went on to explain that ADSL runs on copper and therefore you need a voice line.
So I said "sure, in the past you needed a voice line at like R200pm then you added the ADSL line on top of that and on top of that you added the ISP portion... BUT I've seen articles saying that you should be able to get it without the voice portion... is this an option yet?"

He then goes on to explain that you can get it with bundled minutes or without bundled minutes.

So I ask simply "can I get it without the voice portion?"

He explains again "you have 2 options ...."

Maybe one day... but not yet I guess.

This isn't Naked DSL I think, this is their Rona promo which is reduced rate for 6 months.

I'm still waiting on an ISP to show real naked DSL that isn't stupidly priced after the Rona promo.

There's a link in the article which is

Which talks about the launch of "Naked ADSL"... But it will probably take a while to filter down to ISP level.

It is, the Home Lite doesn't have a phone line and the Home Premium does.

Think so too. If you look at the price difference of R200 between the lite and premium, which is literally the price of landline rental.

The price difference is R100 and this is from the FAQs:

Can I migrate from the traditional DSL copper line to the Pure Connect DSL offering? • To the DSL Unlimited Home Premium bundles, yes (Voice and Internet). • To the DSL Unlimited Home Lite, Yes (Only Internet, not voice)

Do you have a link? Then I have the wording and places on their site where it is so I can speak to someone who actually knows what's up.

Hmm I can only find a "Unlimited Home Lite" which is listed as fibre.

I've looked again and there is DSL on its own with the voice line being listed as an optional VAS. I wonder if this is it (can't upload from my phone). :(

I'm going to try and apply for this in the week, I'm so excited to finally have real uncapped. My line is rock solid and my ping is only ever ~4ms higher than my JHB friends with fibre, so now I don't have to wait another year and spend 2 grand on installation.

I am also trying, TRYING being the key word here as none of the three sales persons i spoke to had any idea of what i was talking about...

And the online application seems to only be for the 24 months deal and not the month - month.
Will keep on trying, hopefully i get to speak to someone that is in touch with what is going on.

Imagine that... I applied monday... today I phone for an update... no order showing on my account.

Then the agent tells me I cant go from my account to the 40mbps vdsl lite package because I have my my data portion at another ISP.

When did the ISP/data portion become magically linked to the ASDL line? My voice line and ADSL line are both with telkom... but no... she tells me I must first cancel my data portion with the other provider and THEN i can apply with telkom. I ask why? Since i have multiple ISP/data accounts and I dont need to cancel one to long into another one. She tells me I cant get the upgrade because I have a ISP/data account with another ISP. Unable to tell me why other than because they wont upgrade you because of that. I ask to speak to a manager and get told "you just want to hear a manager say it".

Promised callback from manager didnt happen

Reality. If you have an existing Telkom contract, You are screwed. Only available to new contracts. Existing customers have no option to go on the naked deals. Best I can get is a home premium upgrade. FmL

I'm on month to month at the moment... so hopefully I can make some plan. On their website you can click "upgrade" but they say "nope"? sigh....

On month to month as well. Only good news is my cost decrease with a R100 and no more @$#%@$# FUP

I've been looking at this as well, but I was told by a sales rep from Telkom that month-to-month means no promo price, no router and you foot the bill for installation costs. Although the installation costs were not broken down, so what exactly does the installation all entail? I got a quote from them that's its about R1600 in total. Just asking so I know what I'm getting myself into.

The one agent I spoke to told me I would still get the promo price on month to month...but then the agents can't agree on what is true and what isn't.

I asked them what router they supply, the agent couldn't tell me but did say it's around R1600 for the router.

I got that quote for installation, but is installation necessary if there was ADSL and a telephone line within the last year? I tried getting in contact with the technical team, but no response now for about 5 days.
Thought I'd ask around here for guys who had ADSL reinstalled so I could have an idea of cost if I go month-to-month. No need for a router though.
