HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Gents, I'm on the lookout for a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 headphones. Preferably the 250ohm non-pro version with the straight cable.

If you know of anyone who might have one for me or if you want to sell yours, please let me know.

Nice headphone. Great for gaming. Hens teeth come to mind though [emoji28]

Hi Guys,

Anyone know how to get some Sennheiser HD6xx into the country by Christmas or early next year? Or maybe someone is selling some HD600's for a bit cheaper?

Thanks.

Currently $195 on Drop. Would get here in around 14-18 days with AGS. Maybe sooner if you're lucky. But if you order today you will almost certainly have it by Christmas. My last 2 Drop orders, both within the last month, took 14-16 days from order/payment to my door (via AGS).

My gear has changed so much since this thread started. But this is what I'm settling on for a bit. Just waiting for the CTH to arrive. For anyone contemplating a DAC in the $350 price range, I can confirm with 100% confidence that the Airist R2R is a superb choice - and if you're coming from no DAC (or some lower-end DAC), you will be in for a real treat. It's just one amazing little DAC that I can't recommend highly enough. Easily 10/10 at its price point... and that's before I've started on the 789. Let me just stop here.

The closest to that is @ScottulusMaximus 's local 58X

That is if you want before Christmas. Anything new ordered through him now would only arrive early next year.

i said I wouldn’t cry[/MEDIA]

I saw that and I’m sure it’s amazing but I prefer speakers over a headset.

To paraphrase one of the comments "I'd also cry if listening to Cinderella even on $5 earphones". I decided to give that song a listen, I have a daughter, can confirm will cry.

Not to take away from how good those headphones may or may not be.

Finally got my hands on the K7XX's I've been wanting since the start of the year.

Loadshedding annoyances aside this is gonna be a fun weekend.

My poor Sennie GSX is crying though, from stuffing around at 10-20 volume levels to needing 60 just for acceptable listening volume.

So far comparing them to X2s (normal X2s, X2HRs are next on my list) the X2 is like a mallet, it's a blunt weapon. These feel so much sharper. There's space for all the sounds. And for the very first time I'm not wondering where the body of the music went if I listen only in Stereo, I can actually see myself getting used to Stereo with these. Though I still prefer 7.1.

Anyone have some words to share on the Philips SHP9500? it'll end up costing around R1.7k cause it'll have to be bought from Amazon and I'll need to get mic with it. I was looking at corsair hs50 as a cheaper, locally available alternative but thats not exactly audiophile stuff (I'm not really a audiophile person...so yea).

Would you recommend something else at that price range?

Got the Fidelio X2 at 100 USD. Am in Korea so was around R1750 to bring it. Much better proposition than the SHP9500.

It's bit too pricey as that one will be around R3.4k total with mic + shipping.

I've been contemplating selling my Arctis Pro with GameDAC for a few weeks now (R2500) but I haven't been able to get myself to pull the trigger yet. I'm still a bit worried I'll regret selling it if I do, even though I have an A50 and other higher end headphones (with a ModMic). That alone speaks for the Arctis Pro's gaming performance. I have not listened to music with it though.

What sound software would one recommend to set sound and adjust EQ's and that, finally got my SHP9500's :)

Looking for advice/suggestions on setting them up properly (without soundcard, only default mobo sound unfortunately)

Thanks in advance :)

most sound drivers would have a 5 band or 7 band EQ - use this to get familiar with EQ first - because most people mess up the sound quality using EQ .... for example i have been using EQ for almost 40 years including in professional environments (for clubs and live bands) and sometimes i can mess the sound up too

once you know what each band does to the sound then move on to slightly more advanced versions .... as a specific example of one particular frequency - if the sound suffers from sibilance (adding a harsh ssss or sshh type of effect to vocals) then you can drop 8khz - and remember it is better to drop frequencies than it is to add because at any frequency that you add 3db to your amp will have to work twice as hard on that frequency

please note that i'm not saying do not use EQ but what i am saying is use as little as possible wherever you can because too much of it can totally mess up the sound quality and only interfere with frequencies that you specifically know about to achieve your desired result

I understand what you saying, gain an understanding, which I have wanted to understand sound for some time now. And then add small tweaks to what you prefer rather than just destroy the EQ all together by boosting a Band unnecessarily.

APO is pretty much the most powerful software EQ available. There is no UI without Peace (software written as an interface for APO). So without Peace, APO EQ changes are made in a config file. Install APO and Peace, and you're good to go. Glhf.

I think it comes with a GUI now. At least I never installed a GUI and I got a "configuration editor" installed along with it.

doesnt seem like its for beginners - it seems pretty involved especally if you are going to try and use it with REW (Room EQ Wizard for those who are not familiar with it) like how they suggest - because doing REW measurements is pretty involved and you need a good microphone too

for people not very familiar with EQ as i said use the smaller EQ in audio drivers and then when you can do those adjustments with your eyes closed and achieve good results then move over to more advanced EQ or the problem is that you may even alter the bits of your audio that is actually good too and mess things up

Is it any good ... Compared to other wireless options. They on special at the moment at epiphany (spelling).

Its b&w so by default its good. I've seen positive reviews, haven't tried them out though. Hopefully the comfort is improved over the px

Never say brand X is always good. Never.

All brands have at least one shit model in their lineup and it is often their best selling because it’s their cheapest.

Heads up for the audio thread. I’m getting rid of gear I don’t use. Posted my Arctis Pro with GameDAC and Massdrop Plus IEM’s already (with very nice price drops). Gonna post my Logitech Z906 and Sound Blaster X7 next (shortly). That’s about it. I don’t think I wanna sell any of my other gear for now.
