Moved from FNB private to wealth and the service is substantially better. Might have something to do with the fact that we have numerous business accounts witht them and deal with the people on a daily and personal basis. Private banking was no better than premier, but the slight increase in costs to wealth certainly made a massive difference in service delivery.

Fnb I would say is a really user friendly bank when it comes to online banking etc. but yes the higher tiers are a joke, I’ve had a private client account for almost a year now and I only actually benefited from the R20 000 no fee cash deposit limit. I don’t even know who the banker is assigned to my account. Please note I am 20 and poor (most months) so I doubt that he/she actually wants to talk to me.

mmm.... interesting. RMs are typically fixed on one region as far as I know. This region, can be anything though depending on how the bank is set up, i.e. Central/Cape/KZN with the whole country being divided into those three. Would be curious to know how FNB deals with that specific aspect and allocation.
I know that FNB also has different regions based on service. For example Online Enterprise banking has its own relations manager and Witbank and Nelspruit still shares 1 that has over 200 accounts.

FNB Witbank, Middelburg and Nelspruit use to share relations managers until about 2 years ago or so. Now Witbank is its own region with the relations managers office about 3 streets away from me. The last I heard there was something like 10 business RM's (with assistants) but only 3 Private Clients RM's.

Hang on a second, I thought that you have to earn R750 000 p.a. to qualify for a FNB Private Client account ?
If so, that's definitely not poor haha.

tbh @HK-Kid , I am with ABSA and I've had really good service and nothing to complain about... They couldn't beat FNB when I applied for my car loan, so I went with FNB for the loan, but ABSA has the rest of me.

Glad you happy with the lack of innovation.... They have no geo payment, real instant payment, they are just not as tech savvy as the other banks which makes being with them a drag. I purchased something from a fellow carbie over the weekend for a substantial bit of cash. Did an instant payment and they said it would take 90 min to clear......

FNB Premier account.

I was on standard bank, then Nedbank and now FNB because I work for them so I have to.

I like the account though - I earn ~R400 in eBucks each month and I love the tech.

I hate Absa. The body corporate is with Absa and it’s impossible and the fees are high.

Another vote for Capitec.

Cheap fees & affordable immediate payment, fast payments and easy to use the app.

Yes, ATMs are a bit scarce and expensive but I almost never carry cash on me. And if needed, I just do a 'cashback' at my local Pick n Pay or Checkers.

And we're getting a new card and as far as I know majorly updated app soon.

I have the black card tier thing at Absa.
I pay like 275 a month, unlimited free swipes, drawing, sending etc etc, Private banker to call when i have issues or need things done (even though its a different person everytime, it still works well) i get actual cash back not 'bucks' and i have really just never had an issue with them.

I'll give Capitec 200% credit. They only expanded their product line up when they felt like they could.

Expanding for the sake of expanding can kill a business because there's too much cash going out and not enough coming in. Capitec were smart and it's reflected in their share price. Their share price is a reflection of their 5 year potential profit so it is expensive but with their recent addition of credit cards, I don't think that they are at risk of going under.

VBS on the other hand...

I started with Capitec because it was the cheapest back in 2015/2016 fees and account wise. It is also the only one I know of with a R5 fee that also gives you interest and allows me to purchase online with my debit card while most similarly priced Student/Cheap accounts elsewhere don't allow this.

As others have mentioned, instant payment @ R8 and R5 monthly fee. Plus the small amount of interest usually covers my bank account fee and some transactions. So I really don't feel restricted by my banking fees. The app is sufficient and I've learnt how to get PoP (email to myself and then forward on from there) and well, you can pull detailed statements from a browser by logging in. Very secure as everything goes through the phone with authentication from the app. Sometimes it is a bit crap that you have to go into the branch to get an account and still use some outdated methods like Proof of Residence (I see FNB I could open an account on their app in 5 minutes which is cool),

I also have a Thyme Bank account purely because it has no monthly fee so why not. Plus they offer the goal saves with up to 9% interest p.a. which is the highest around with immediate access to the money. So it's also got its perks.
Once I start working and feel paying more for an account like through FNB, then maybe I'll open an FNB account but for now Capitec and Thyme is working so well for me I probably won't switch.

I am very much looking forward to the new card and now the sound of a more versatile app. Will be a welcome upgrade!

Also Masterpass needs more adoption, I love paying with my phone at places!!!!
