Hey all

Give this a test for me, I decided to help out the guys here I'll host an image hosting service on one of my VPS I have to offer

Kind of my PIF for the site to help out with 500GB of storage

It should be pretty simple and straight forward unlike other image sites.

Cheers

What is the upload limit size? Hopefuly something small to avoid people uploading 100mb pictures of their hardware....

10mb for now
Why not make it smaller? Who is using a DSLR to take photos of their old tech

Make it 4mb or even less...

I would make it 1mb. Resize your photos people. There is no need for large resolution photos.

You guys heard the man :p
It may not be a solution, since Carbonite still host the images, but looking at the claims of this ([tl] Image Optimizer for XF 2.x) it seems pretty cool.

The first comment reads. "I just ran this on my system. We have over 400k photos. It ran smoothly with no visible change in quality of photos. This has saved ~40GB of disk space on our system. You will not be disappointed in running this addon. Another benefit is that it reduces page sizes and thus makes page load faster for users. A 4mb photo is now 900k etc.. "

As I said, it is an option, not necessarily a solution.

Nope, we are not going host any images of any sorts. We are looking for image hosting plugins that integrates with our uploads.

@ARKSEZA Is it possible to change the background for the website?
People at work think Im looking at porn.......

I know I'm busy cluttering the thread you've just cleaned up :D but can you give me an idea what is the amount of storage the images used over the period, assuming that since 2010 till 2019 you have been accepting uploads of images.

All images were purged when we moved to Xenforo last year (AFAIK), so in less than a year we filled up 50GB just on images, you can use this to decide on what you can provide.
Saying that not everyone will be using this as the trend for Carbonite is not to read anything for the majority of users :ROFLMAO:
Also limit users to max 4MB, I'm sure you could even do 2MB.

Earlier in this thread there was mention of an FTP storage plugin, would this not be an option that I setup an FTP server and XF stores on this?

Will ask @Ageless_ZA to look into it, I have not yet.
Also final calls on add-in/changes to server is not mine to make.

why don't users just use Puush/shareX Then paste the link here.

I normally use imgbb.com/
No hassles, gives you a selection of ways to display it on other sites and, well, it's what I used on here before. There are always options. The OP now provides one more. Always welcome :)

I use my phone's cameras and normally upload at whatever resolution it comes in at. When I do edit it in Photoshop to crop out some unwanted details and the like, by the time I hit save and upload I realize that my large resolution screen played mind tricks on me and my "average size" image is still around 3000 pixels wide ;) At least Photoshop's compression and imgbb does a good job of making the uploaded image manageable so thank goodness for that! :D

Hmmm, did a little digging. Turns out this "PIF" is powered by Chevereto - Image Hosting Script. Nicely hidden (visible in source code).

Nice way to drive traffic though, PIF :sneaky:

Well done, you 'viewed source' and found my big secret, hosting a free image hosting script without ads to drive traffic through a site labelled Carb Image. Which was a freebie to the Carbonite community as the name suggests, you sir are a brilliant detective! :D lol 😂 #exposed

Yes Sir I am.

Did you pay to hide that back-link ?

>>>"Which was a freebie to the Carbonite community as the name suggests"

uhhh I see, so why not give it to carbs ? they can create their own subdomain "images.carbonite.co.za" and then its truly a freebie and PIF:D😁
