Can't find the link for the actual device but this is the internal drive (as per HDS). The external hdd is authentic Seagate so I don't know what other websites are saying about the internal drive.

I have the 4TB Backup Plus drives from Seagate which are USB Powered - Very nice drives and easy to use.

This is wall powered, most 3.5inch drives are. Bigger I've seen self powered is 4TB but then again self power is 2.5inch and I suppose any size 2.5inch can be self powered.

Thanx fr insight, wanted yo know. So I quess no matter how big the HDD. As long as its 2.5inch I can just buy a closure desk for it that will become a USB self powered.

I believe so, as for enclosures I got this for one of my drives: ORICO 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure (2139C3-CR-PRO), USB3.1 to USB-C, T...
Although this says supports up to 2TB.

Most 2.5" drives will start up off of 5 watts or less. Every 3.5" drive I've seen generally needs at least 20 watts to startup, which means you'll never see a USB 2.0 bus-powered 3.5" enclosure."
"In the USB 1.0 and 2.0 specs, a standard downstream port is capable of delivering up to 500mA (0.5A); with USB 3.0, it moves up to 900mA (0.9A). The charging downstream and dedicated charging ports provide up to 1,500mA (1.5A). USB 3.1 bumps throughput to 10Gbps in what’s called SuperSpeed+ mode, bringing it roughly equivalent with first-generation Thunderbolt. It also supports power draw of 1.5A and 3A over the 5V bus. "
"there's the issue of voltages, as well. 2.5" drives need only 5 volts, conveniently the same as is supplied by USB. 3.5" drives need both 5V and 12V supplies."

so i guess its the amount of power the usb drive can push. i had a usb 3 2.5inch external hdd that had a optional second usb to power it. I suppose this was why.
