Any programmers here?

I'm a IBM BPM developer, which uses JavaScript mostly and some HTML for design and styling. Trying to learn some app development on the side, but I don't really have time for that as well

C++, and then a bit of Java, VB, JS, jQuery, CSS/HTML, PHP, SQL. (Built simple CRM's before too since I see some people mentioning it)
Also cool with designing on photoshop etc :)
And electronics i.e Arduino/RPi and general circuitry
And 3D design and printing :D

Derivco Developer (y)
CSS.... I dunno if I'd call that a full on language but then again I have done little with CSS.

It's not lol. CSS and HTML don't really count as full on languages. But I put it in there coz others did. Also, technically something you have to "program"

Nah. They are languages.

Just not programming languages.

But markup ones.

Any freelancers in this thread??? need some python/website coding with api of system..

I would also like to call myself a developer.

I learned Java at University but I rarely use it, I started working and I mainly code in Python and Angular(Typescript) now. Do lots of Websites and mobile apps aswell.

@skoenman
I do a lot of this actually, don't really freelance but maybe I could help you out depending on the project size.

I'm doing a web development course on Udemy to learn, wana put up my own built by my hands website.

Started with html and css and done little Javascript going next for jquery. Course is abit long but it's very interesting.

My day job is in retirement funds and studied finance so very different stuff.

Don't know if I can call myself a dev yet

If anyone is looking into getting into Mobile Dev or Java - PM me. We have some spots open. :) Even if you have limited experience.

I am currently working in the medical aid sector, for a company that manages Momentum's insurance platforms (mostly back end and some front end). I deal mostly with Oracle based project development - PL/SQL, Forms, Perlscript and some JS.

Have experience in the usual C#, C++... but haven't done any other coding in a while.

I want to get back into doing development in my spare time... learning something new that might benefit me in the future.

Any suggestions?

This was a really fun and educational read.
Bump.
Way back: Delphi, C, assembler, C++
Mid back: VBA (with MS Access), VB .Net, C#, SQL (on MSSQL & MySQL)
Recent: bash (scripting I know), MariaDB (Mysql drop-in replacement), PHP (CodeIgniter MVC framework), and the usual Front end HTML, CSS, Javascript
Possible future: just finished setting up a VM with Ruby on Rails. Looking interesting so far.

Thought I might as well contribute to this thread as I have some programming knowledge to share.

High School days: Delphi, MS Access and Excel :p
Uni: Mostly Java and JEE 6/7, some MySQL, tiny bits of Coldfusion, lots of HTML, JavaScript, Android Dev, simple PHP forms, ActionScript for games 🤢 and Python for fun side project scripts.
Early Career: Some Angular and Bootstrap front end stuff. Tiny bits of Java Spring Framework, mostly C# with .Net Framework and the whole Azure Cloud Dev stack for the big enterprise company development.
Now: Moved to server-side land with lots of PHP hooked up into MarieDB and MySQL database servers. Some Python scripts for automation, HTML 5, Javascript, Bootstrap for all the web front end stuff that hooks into the PHP backend systems.

Advice for the young ones and beginners: Python is beautiful, powerful, easy to learn and useful now especially for the age of big data. HMTL and JavaScript is a must for frontend development and NodeJS seems to be making some good ground, which JS framework you choose depends on the hottest flavor at the time. Go for Angular if you like Google or React if you like facebook :p
Don't discount PHP for server backend work, it is simple yet powerful and well established.
O and don't forget to learn your SQL and data transfer formats like XML and JSON.

Take my advice with a grain of salt, all of this is my subjective, informed, experienced opinion.
Use common logic, facts, and reputable sources to make your own opinion and don't forget to keep up with the current trends as things always change in the I.T world, however, some fundamentals will remain and it is key you understand them.

I'm a dev too :)
Self taught, started with Java, C++ and C# and then ended up getting a career as a web developer (go figure)
Now I mainly code with Javascript (React, Angular, Ionic & Electron) / CSS / HTML, really want to get back to pure programming though.

Tsk tsk tsk... Starts with a ; delimited notation, ends exit() with none.... smh

I've done some super silly things using notepad, python and a few minutes on a friends computer... :D
Pfft. I have killed the school's server with a bat file that just replicated itself until pc was full.
Stupid, but simple and effective to get out of computer class for a day or so.
Of course the teacher couldn't figure out what was going on and had to get a IBM tech out a few days later only to reinstall the server.

I got suspended the next term on the 2nd day of school for the whole term for 'hacking' the server (accessing root with admin details) and screwing around with files coz I was bored in CAT class.
