Table Mountain and the three ships
    by Ohan Smit, on Flickr

It is very seldom that one gets a capture with so much opposing forces at hand.

We have starlight, sunlight, city lights and the first pink clouds of a new morning, all bundled into one shot.

This makes me want to go grab some more.

    Nikon D800, Nikkor 24-70mm at 24mm, aperture of f/5.6, a 10 second exposure shot at ISO 400.

    The Southern Goodbye
    by Ohan Smit, on Flickr

Taken on the final stretch of my southern island adventure in New Zealand, on the ferry en route to Wellington in the north island.

The sun was at a very low elevation for quite some time, being in the mid of November and with the complexity of all the clouds, high altitude, mid and some lenticular clouds, it was quite a spectacle viewing these burnt down brushes on this particular stretch.

    Canon 5D MkII, EF-50mm, aperture of f/8, a 1/200th of a second exposure shot at ISO 100.

If you see picture shot during the day with smooth and streaky water, that is when I used a Neutral Density 3.0 filter.

It reduces the incoming light to 1/1024, allowing for long exposure during daytime.

The rest are all shot without any filters.

The table mountain shot was shot without a ND filter, it was dark enough to achieve the desired exposure.

    Table Mountain - Cracker
    by Ohan Smit, on Flickr

This is my very first lightning capture, caught with luck back in 2012.

Having processed so many new captures of lightning it made me come back out of curiosity and feeling quite adventurous, I re-edited the original RAW.

    Enjoy the view!

Table Mountain - Pink Surprise Sunrise
    by Ohan Smit, on Flickr

It is quite wonderful to have a sunrise that evolves so much you could get the same composition more or less, but with completely different moods and characters.

I do believe I was the first of the photographers bunch to undo my shoes and tuck them firmly under the warm waters of Blouberg.

It took just thirty minutes for the scene to miraculously transform and me freezing my legs off, before I called it quits...

Nikon D800, Nikkor 24-70mm at 24mm, aperture of f/11, 0.4 second exposure shot at ISO 100.
