    Talking TV suggestion

    Hi all

Could anyone recommend a TV model that they think is a good budget option (i.e. not the R20 000+ fancy ass TV's) for some light console gaming (not competitive and not PS4 Pro/Xbox One X), possibly the odd PC game hooked up with controller, but mainly for media consumption? Guessing HDR is a bit of a long shot, by no means needs to be a smart TV, will be playing through either the smart Blu-ray player or lappy hooked up with air mouse or console for Netflix etc. I was thinking in the range of 49", definitely not a fixed. 4K would be a nice bonus. Takealot would be preferred. Here is what I found:

    Samsung 49" UHD curved R8499
    https://www.takealot.com/samsung-49-...v/PLID47107213

    JVC 58" UHD smart R7999
    https://www.takealot.com/jvc-58-uhd-...k/PLID47208514

    LG 49" UHD smart R7999
    https://www.takealot.com/lg-49uj620-...v/PLID43545161

    JVC 55" UHD smart R6999
    https://www.takealot.com/jvc-55-uhd-...v/PLID42980568

    Hisense 49" UHD smart R6999
    https://www.takealot.com/hisense-49-...v/PLID41711720

JVC seems to give the most screen real estate for the buck. No idea of their quality though? Won't be relying on the built-in speakers. Also, not clued up on how to find 4K60fps capable units, would be nice.

    Cool thnx

For what its worth, I'm used to full time using my PG348Q for all gaming and media consumption and just looking to get something bigger to use for movies. The 21:9 aspect ratio really is super pleasant for movies though

    Re: TV suggestion

I recently bought the HiSense M5010 series and I am extremely happy with the TV.
Upscaling to 4K from 1080 source is excellent and there are some kewl options on the smart TV channels offered.
I got it at Hirsch's and it comes with a 4 year warranty. Also available at other major retailers. Shop around. I saved R400
they have it in a range of sizes.

Don't bother with JVC... Chinese TV's squatting on JVC name in SA because JVC has no SA representation...
HiSense are decent, but I would suggest someting with proper HDR support so the Samsung or LG it is.

The Sammy and HiSense are the only worthwhile options on this list imo. Just donít expect hdr - they donít have the peak brightness or the wide colour gamut that premium hdr requires. If Iím not mistaken, the Sammy has the better contrast. I would go with the Sammy but youíll probably be happy with either or.

If you are not in total darkness where you intend gaming. The lg is a great option. smooth os. Has hdr / 4k.. can calibrate to near picture perfect quality ... Also has a magic remote. It Def ticks all the boxes.

Makro two weeks back had the 55inch version for r7999 ... Not sure if just that store I was in or not

Just be aware that LG use IPS panels on these entry level 4k ďhdrĒ models, so the contrast is not very good.

Although the VA panels lose colour at angles greater than 30 degrees - where the IPS panels donít - you cannot compare the contrast between the panels (VA outperforms IPS in this regard).

Perhaps itís personal preference, I would rather have better contrast over wider viewing angles - contrast is a major factor when rating TV performance, it is often considered to be the most important metric in terms of TV performance.

Edit: The reason I would go with Sammy is because it has the best contrast performance of all these models. But in the end, I think given your intended usage, youíll be happy with any of the above - but please, avoid JVC at all costs.

    Re: TV suggestion

My parents just bought the Samsung 55" inch 1080P samsung TV from game for 10K

    The curved one is 11K.

It looks really good and isn't badly priced
