PC shuts down when inserting USB device

    Hi All

My PC shuts down when I insert a USB device in one of the rear ports. This does not happen every single time, but mostly.

I've ruled out the PSU by testing with a different PSU.

Recently upgraded my PC with brand new PSU, mobo, CPU, RAM, GFX, NVME M2 SSD etc.....Still the same case. My old setup did not do this.

I have all the latest drivers installed, BIOS is updated...the works.

Any idea what it could be?

    Setup:

    Windows 10 Pro
    i7-7700
    Asus ROG STRIX B250H
    MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 3GB
    2x8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2400mhz
    Samsung 960 EVO NVME 250GB
    Seagate SATA Barracuda 2TB
    WD Blue SATA 500GB
    Leadex 650w GOLD PSU
Couple of LED fans in the case

    TIA

Yip, thats a short or the USB device is trying to pull more juice than the port can supply. What happens if you power on the pc with the device plugged in? Ever get a error message along the lines of USB over current?

Like the man above said, if its new, get it replaced.

Shut down as in "Your PC is now turning itself off" or an outright crash with a blue screen or turns completely off?

What USB devices seem to trigger this?

"My PC shuts down when I insert a USB device in one of the rear ports"

Does it shut down when you plug in any USB device or one particular device?
On any one of the rear ports or on one particular port?
    Please clarify.

I assume that "rear ports" refer to the ports mounted directly on the motherboard. Please check for shorts to the mounting pins. A good test would be to remove the motherboard form the case and assemble your PC on a flat non-conductive surface with the bare minimum of components ( one dimm stick, use the onboard gpu etc) and check if the error occurs.

Just like the other comments sounds most likely like a short.

The times when your system does not shut down does windows give you a message saying something about overvoltage? Or even a message like that in POST?
