Re: Talk to me about fans (all of them)

I ordered 5x Phanteks PH-F140XP fans earlier the month.
Should arrive end of next week. I'll let you know how those perform as well.

Replacing the standard 3 pin fans on the Carbide Air 540 and the Fans on my H110i GT as well.

Was R900 odd for 5 which isn't too bad.

You could spend a long time there and maybe find a set of fans that work for you, or you won't. Your choice.

Hi can anyone recommend some decent 140mm airflow fans for intake?Currently I have 2 deepcool gf140 fans at 40% to 70% depending on CPU temps.I want something that push more air through the front of my case with that same profile and noise.

That's really not a bad price. I remember when fans were maybe R100 at most. Scary how our weakening currency is making our nice hobbies unaffordable

Are you struggling with temps? Maybe have a look at the Phanteks PH-F140SP, currently R169 from Wootware

Not really struggling.I run a super aggressive fan curve on my GPU,35% to 100% depending on temps to maintain it's clock speed.Problem is I know that's not good for the GPU fans so I want to compensate with more airflow to the GPU fans.Ill have a look at those phanteks fans ,I've had my eye on Corsairs ML pro fans but they are SP optimized

Re: Talk to me about fans (all of them)

Taking into consideration what you have (mid size PC case, non-blower GPU fan design) you would need to draw in a lot of air to expel the hot air generated and seeing as the case is on the smaller side of things, it will heat up pretty fast if you don't have good airflow. I know because I have the same issue. 100% on the GPU fan shouldn't be an issue, but you will probably go deaf before the fans start giving you hassles.

I have the same issue with my case where it gets pretty stuffy in there fast, especially since I removed the slatted side cover again and replaced it with a solid Perspex one a while back. While playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag the CPU temp hovers around 55*C with the GPU around 65*C. At those temps the CPU fans on the H80i are around 40 - 45% and the GPU fans are in the region of 45 - 50%. There is quite a bit of warm air exiting my H80i as it is my only exhaust fan and soaks a bit from the GTX1070's heat from below. I should actually install a fan blowing IN from the top to supply the H80i with cool air and to help cool the VRM's a bit, but then the issue of dust raises it's head again.

What CPU cooler do you have installed? Do you have any fans in the top two bays and the rear bay?

Re: Talk to me about fans (all of them)

I have a corsair h105 with 2 sp120 high performance fans. Its in the top front part of the case, top bay supports 360mm rads so I put the rad as far front as it will go.The fans on the Zotac 1070 amp are surprisingly quiet at max(2000rpm) i can hear my hdds over them.Ive got a rear exhaust fan(af120) and a bottom intake fan next to the psu(sp120).I think I have good airflow as the card does stay below 60 at a gaming load(hellblade, witcher 3 ,Nier automata).I think the airflow could be better though as the deepcools can only to around 70cfm at max and as stated previously they dont spin at max.I dont know I think the zotac card is just under designed in the cooling department, was thinking of using a kraken g10 bracket and cooling it with a h55 or something. What do you think, better front intake fans or watercooling?

Re: Talk to me about fans (all of them)

Are your SP120's mounted to the rad pushing air out or pulling into the case? If I understand you correctly:

    FRONT- 2x 140mm - intake
    TOP - 2x 120mm on H105 - ???
    BOTTOM - 1x 120mm - intake
    REAR - 1x 120mm - exhaust
PSU - 1x 120mm - no effect on airflow as you didn't state it was inverted

It sounds like you definitely have enough fans doing work in your PC. I would work on looking for silent (not sure how much of a priority this is for you?), high CFM fans to replace the current ones with. Unfortunately you may have to look at spending big bucks to find fans that are both quiet and have high airflow characteristics.

I would make your layout as follows:

FRONT - retain the layout, replace with high CFM fans
TOP - move rad to rear and middle 120mm fan locations - exhausting hot air out the case. You have a mild OC so temps should not be an issue. The reason I would move it to the rear two fan locations is to help extract stale air from above the GPU.
BOTTOM - Intake, replace with high CFM fan
REAR - Exhaust, replace with high CFM fan
PSU - retain the layout if intake is pointed towards the bottom of the case

This layout should yield you a positive case pressure so as to keep dust at bay. Regarding the 1070 cooling, I would keep the stock fans on it as your temps seem very good, they are near silent and you are adding additional points of failure by adding an AIO cooler. You will also have to cool the VRM's of the 1070 with a fan which may be noisier than the stock ones. Not to mention the plumbing concerns and what that may do to your airflow seeing as the case is a bit on the tight side.

    Just my 2c
