Fish were on like crazy.

Couldn't have had a better introduction to river fishing.
When I was working out that side used to fish down at Wimpy & at opposite end across from Spar. Walking distance from Regent/ICC Hotel. Mostly shad/elf & kob. Catch & release of course, stayed in hotel.
Anyone here able to tell me where the best and safest spots are to fish around east london. I know the surrounding areas (1h+ drive) but never actually tried in el itself 😅
Wanting to find spots where a quick morning or afternoon throw can be done without being required to travel out of town 🎣

Speaking of books. If any salt water fisherman ever see's this book I suggest you pick it up. Of all the guides and books I have read this one is the one I keep going back to the most. I would go so far as to call it the THE BOOK of Salt Water Fishing in South Africa.Having read a lot of fishing books on spots in this area it also appears as if the authors concur with this.
I grew up in East London but in my younger days I was a surfer and not a fisherman. Now that I am into fishing I have been trying to get some good cachces when ever we visit family in East London. We stay in Gonubie when there, which was also my hometown when I was surfing a lot, although I did often go to Nahoon, Bonza Bay and sometimes Easterns for a surf. I also surfed a lot at Yellows/Kwelera.
I have come to the conclusion that the Gonubie area is crap for fishing! There is just no ways you can fish that area as much as I have the last few visits there without any decent catch. From the tidal pool to black rock and further, always turn up empty. Having read a lot of fishing books on spots in this area it also appears as if the authors concur with this. Rather look at going out of town towards places like Yellows, Cintsa, Cefani, etc
With that said, I have not tried these spots. One of my mates says he gets some catches of Elf sometimes at Bonza Bay but I would not recommend you go alone in this area. Especially if you walk from Bonza Bay side towards Gonubie direction.
