Bought these - 10G SFP+ to 10/5/2.5GbE RJ45 Module - MiRO Distribution
Didn't work on an Arista due to it being detected as a 10G-SRL optic (Optic is reporting it can do 1KM on fiber, so not sure how it's going to achieve that...)
Gave up /thread

Had issues on Takealot as well with Xbox remote battery, as soon as 6 months passed, they tell you contact the supplier - Could net get hold of the supplier. Decided fuck not worth it
I am interested in the full details of how fibre ( GPON ) is provided in SA:
FNOs provide L2 for ISPs that do the L3 portion.
Fiber is run by FNOs and OLT and ONTs are provided by said FNOs. They monitor the physical fiber levels, connection etc (On L1 and some L2). This is not a ping test...
Also adding, I have not seen any SP sell GPON capable SFPs to end customers (and skipping the ONT). They do exist however. The ONT is where they can monitor to make sure connectivity goes all the way to the house - Without this is becomes difficult to troubleshoot.
If I were a SP providing...
Find out who your FNO is, the ONT is really key to going from GPON to Ethernet. GPON is 2.5Gbps down and 1.25Gbps up (thus its not the normal 1 or 10G ethernet we use is "normal" networking.
But this really depends on your FNO. To give you an example (I worked in this space), the ONT at...
Definitely looks like it will work. That is not GPON it's active ethernet. Give it a go.
One problem is that mac address if the Ont might be required on your end to get an IP ( static mac to ip binding.) perhaps not.
There must be some way to simulate that mac from your pfsense
Agreed - I have an excessive setup at home - Untangle firewall and all bunch of other stuff. If it is down, they can only really test to the ONT (which they can see as a demarcation point) - Once you remove that, it becomes difficult from the ISP side to check. Keep the stuff when something...
Check here - @gavin286 had an ONT with an SFP , so if you have the same it might work.

This will not work on metrofiber as their ONT has everything built in, and brings out ethernet on the other side.
Hey this won't work except if they do active ethernet (Normal LR optics , 1G - which I highly doubt) , and not an ONT. An ONT converts GPON (2.5G down, 1.25G up) into normal ethernet - Your normal SFPs will not work with this.
What I have seen is the following -...
So the idea behind home-fiber is that the line is bursty for short periods and best effort. So most of the time traffic throughput should be low - So in short no. If you want that you want a line with little to no contention ratios (Business service)
Regarding the fiber connection - Its just an...
@Random_Sheep you need to enable fasttrack for the connections once established.I can't remember exactly what needs to be done but it brings the speeds up substantially. Else you will get kak speeds. I have replaced my internet router with an Untagle firewall (now Arista), but yeah not as cheap...
Have you seen this ?

Guy has been at it for quite some time. Remember my friend had this on his Mecer back in the day to be able to control it better.
Quite some interest. Was asked to open it up to confirm it it is a brand new card, or RMA. It is a sealed unit, but the card is not brand new. It does however still carry warranty with Wootware.
As mentioned in the wootware link, no accessories.
