Starfield Thread

It's hard to call an average, performance varies a decent amount. I turned shadows down to High which did make a decent impact. Without looking at numbers and using only my eyes (the real test of performance) - it's buttery smooth, no hitching, obvious frame-time spikes or anything else. It feels like a solid 70-80FPS I'd say, though I turn the numbers off and just enjoy the game.
Great thanks for the input, from what I've seen its quite an intensive game to run even on high end hardware like your PC, are you using FSR mode or a DLSS mod or are you playing at native 1440?

I'm hoping to get around 60FPS on my setup on 1440p Ultra/High hopefully with stable frame times but it's starting to seem unlikely based off of the performance that higher end rigs are getting.

First I've seen with a wider set of cards (I accept not everyone is a fan):

I'm using FSR for the boost as I've not seen any real difference in visual fidelity. Your 3080 should be totally fine for great 1440p gameplay at high/ultra.

Loving the game so far,

Getting around 50s - 60s in atlantis on high settings with some set to off like blur and film grain
Rest of the worlds and space up to 90s there abouts
been leveling pick pocketing and stealth , doing a bounty hounter kind of play through

Really having fun

Shadow quality is a killer. Seeing decent gains dropping it from Ultra to High, and it doesn't seem like much of a difference. Interesting to see if HWUnboxed or Digital Foundry do an optimisation guide.

FSR is a must, thankfully it looks okay at 4K if you bump the sharpening way high.
You asked, they answered:

So I found PureDark's Patreon. He has a paid Patreon that offers a mod for Starfield which implements DLSS Frame Generation (The non frame-gen DLSS one is free but the performance is the same as using FSR, just looks better).

Paid R110 for access to his Patreon and installed the Frame Generation mod for RTX40 cards.
At 4K res with 100% FSR 2.0 at Ultra, I got 70fps on a 4090.
With the mod's DLSS 3.0 Frame Generation enabled with 100% DLAA, I get 112fps.

Dropping DLSS to Quality (67%), running a locked 140fps in the openeing caves. Will drop shadow quality to high just to give the game some extra headroom in the forests and enjoy how the game was meant to be played.

Just a shame AMD paid Bethesda so we can't get this experience without paying 3rd parties.

Edit : Some areas like the city are much more intensive than the caves. And with the FOV mod it drops the fps quite a bit too.
Still, 4K DLSS Quality with Frame Generation and Ultra settings with high shadow quality at 110 FOV and the lowest drop has been 115fps so pretty happy.

Just me or is the game OMEGA BORING AF. Read online that the game only starts to become fun after 12hours. But fok me I'm at 7hour mark and can't see myself playing it again.

Not for me, I'm digging it.

For those wanting the game but dont want to spend 1.4k, you can spend 17 bucks on the Microsoft store and get the Xbox gamepass (or 70 if you dont have the random deal they offer sometimes), and get Starfield + tons of other games

Where is the R17 offer?

They stopped it for the release of Starfield. There used to be a $1 (~R17) two-week trial. They thought too many people would pay the dollar and grind through the game in two weeks.

Unless there's another way to dodge it that I don't know about.

It's still only R 79/month for Game Pass though, so it's a good way to try before you buy.

Thanks, I recall reading it somewhere that they stopped the $1 trial.
R79 for a year is cheaper than a once off purchase, so it is a better route to go, I agree.

Yeah it seems the R17 was before the release, which i did get, so i only pay R79 at the 5th of next month,

But even then, i get like 30 FPS on all low for some reason, yet i can play literally any other game 2k max settings, fun times

If you have Discord Nitro you can get up to 3 months free of gamepass too.

For anyone with a lower end PC.
I found this yesterday:

I haven't tested it yet, but I am experiencing some freezing in combat situations.
General exploring, flying etc. doesn't have issues.
I've also copied Starfield to my SSD and it's definitely much better (I didn't realise I have enough disk space).
I'm experiencing the stuttering with legendary weapons that are fully modded.
Died to fucking turrets last night on very hard thanks to this shit.

10/10 game would die again

So for those who aren't exactly technoligically inclined but want to add certain mods to Gamepass version download Bethini Pie to enable Loading of Loose files

Then you can pretty much install mods that don't require Script Extender as Gamepass does not work with that afaik.

I'm using Vortex but my mods don't seem to be working. Apparently Mod Manager 2 works well so going to try that later.

What mods are yous running

Vortex is known to give shit with gamepass version so you are better off with manual installs imo

I am only running StarUI Inventory for now, but might load some more later... game already runs like a baked potato so don't wana go full skyrim with 2000+ mods

This is actually the mod that made me want to get mods working for Gamepass version coz of how barebones the stock inventory UI is... shits a pain to manage.
